Winter League WrapUp

Team USA Wins Gold and if you want to watch some of the games here is the Link to the video feeds

Here are final Team USA Stats. Nice of Andy and Delwyn to save our winter. Notice the 7 walks for Delwyn.

Dodger Team USA Stats - Final
Name AB Hits D T HR RBI Runs BB BA OBP Slug%
Young 31 6 4 0 1 4 5 7 0.194 0.4192 0.419
LaRoche 33 11 3 0 3 15 8 5 0.333 0.484 0.697

The AWL is over and the HWL will be done this weekend but I'm putting out the numbers today. Not like this weekend is going to change the dismal performance.

In the past I've been able to catch a few games and talk to some scouts but I was unable to make it this winter, so I can only talk about the players based on the statistical performance.

In the AWL, only Cory Wade put together a performance that stood out. Greg Miller was just awful. Blake Dewitt was blah, a very vanilla performance. Xavier Paul started out horribly and even though he got better that stat line in over 100 at bats is horrific for an outfielder. At 22, I expected more. He played in just about every game while Dewitt only played in about 1/2 the games. Chin Lung Hu only played a few games before leaving to represent his country in the World games.

In the HWL Steve Johnson stood out with his performance. Would have liked to see a higher K/Rate but it was nice to see after a pedestrian summer.

Headed into the season I felt that Hu, Dewitt, Paul, and Bell had a reasonable chance to someday make an impact at the major league level. I was disapointed in what DeWitt, Paul, and Bell did. Josh Bell did get Kudos' from his coach in Hawaii.

On the pitching side I had hoped that Greg Miller would be able to find his control. Instead of finding his control it was even worse. For the 1st time in his career he got pounded, and then pounded some more. His ERA wasn't the result of a couple of bad games like Orenduff, he got pounded just about every time he took the mound, and his control still blows. Corey Wade shined but he didn't pitch much. Orenduff was cruising along and then got rocked his last couple of outings. Last year Zach Hammes put himself back on the map with his performance in the HWL and he hoped to duplicate the result this winter but it didn't work out. Instead is was so unimpressive that he has been removed from the 40 man roster. Would not surprise me to see Greg Miller follow suit.

Suffice to say that the Marlins will not be asking for any of these guys not named Hu, when they come calling.

HU?
Do those stats for Chin Lung Hu include the World games? Do you have the world game stats (or a link for them) for Dodger players?

No
those are only for the players on the actual fall league rosters. I may out the Team USA stats when they are complete. Pretty lofty numbers so far.

Thanks
But I was hoping to get Hu's numbers specifically, also those numbers for Young are quite different than expected as I recalled him tearing up winter league, or is this from a different league than he began winter with?

He
tore up the AFL during the tuneup games for the World Cup. They don't count as World Cup plate appearences. However if you click on this link you can see what he did when you look at his AFL numbers.
