It took me three minutes to microwave dinner and make a drink. It went from 2-1 to 5-2 in that time span.

A Goal
Let's beat Gaslamp Ball in at least one gamethread this series.

It beats watching this game.

Don't You
Why on Earth would they play Don't You Forget About Me after a single?

Oh Boy
It's Hendrickson time!

That Juan Pierre is a sparkplug, I'll tell you wut.

It's so baffling seeing Pierre's helmet come off and seeing a hat underneath.

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 9:40 PM PDT up reply actions

So Confusing
We have five stolen bases, yet we're losing. What's the deal with that?

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 9:50 PM PDT reply actions

Sometimes
I wish I could hate Mark Hendrickson to death.

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 9:52 PM PDT reply actions

Luis Gonzalez
Gonzalez struck out only 23 times prior to tonight. He's now up to 26.

roster
Since nitpicking roster moves seems less painful than paying attention to the game, I have some questions.  Why are there three third basemen on the active roster?  Four if you count Olmedo, who makes up in girth what he lacks in actual ability to play third.

Does this mean that Abreu has gone from solid second base prospect to third baseman of the future to utility infielder in the span of a month?  I am so confused.

Also, isn't Anderson really a second baseman, in spite of his weird stint last year?

by dan310 on Jun 29, 2007 10:10 PM PDT reply actions

Re
He became an outfielder since he's pretty bad at the whole second base thing.

I'm really confused about the whole roster situation. If I had to guess, it's that Ned can't bring himself to send down a guy hitting .270, unless it's James Loney.

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 10:16 PM PDT up reply actions

abreu
eh, i don't really care if he gets sent back down.

but i will still root for him to take over ramon's spot and make him our next DFA victim.

by westside23 on Jun 29, 2007 10:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Re
I disagree, Abreu is far from a finished product, and he needs to play everyday to develop the necessary skills to be a useful player.

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 10:23 PM PDT up reply actions

i agree
he needs to play everyday, im just saying i'd choose him to remain on the team over ramon.

in other news, joe beimel has finally cut his hair.

Re
And thus removing the only thing I could possibly like about him.

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 10:26 PM PDT up reply actions

also
for some reason when abreu first came up ned proclaimed him to be the most talented guy in vegas...not loney, not kemp, not even poor delwyn young. no, abreu. somehow, i feel loney and kemp are more talented, but their batting averages were lower in vegas at the time.

by westside23 on Jun 29, 2007 10:24 PM PDT up reply actions

You think. . .
Loney's out of the woods yet? Ned sure loves sending him down. Tough call which he likes more, screwing with Loney, or trading backup catchers. He sure can trade him some backup catchers.

Web gems/game is the only defensive metric that matters.  After tonight Nomar should be universally regarded as the best defensive third baseman of the year.

I've heard of them! Let's all go to Dodger Stadium to watch! I don't think it's a huge coincidence that I've yet to go to a game this year.

even my poor mother
who i took to a game and knows nothing about baseball, noted that there aren't any stars on this dodger squad. it was astounding that she knew this.

If you're using "made less than Pierre, but is better" as a bench mark, the next four offseasons are going to be very depressing.

not throwing as hard as he was last year, that could be part of his problem. Is he maybe still hurt?

Kent
Kent needs to change his song from Defy You. Three years is enough, and I don't think anyone remembers that.

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 11:05 PM PDT reply actions

Kent!
Kent! Anyway, I don't think anyone remembers the song Defy You. Hell, it's back from when I was really into The Offspring, and that was five plus years ago.

Well, that's just about the most depressing way to end that game.

They kicked our collective ass, 322 to 59. Still, best game thread in a while. Amazing what I can do when I have the time to sit down and watch most of the game, and I'm hammered.

Wow
Kevin Kennedy recognizes the defense is bad, albeit he's looking at the wrong part of the field.

by Andrew on Jun 29, 2007 11:20 PM PDT reply actions

outfield defense and infield defense
which is worse? id say kent is the main culprit in the infield, but pierre and gonzo together is just crazy bad.

Kennedy
I like him, he's insightful, I almost wish he was our manager but then he'd probably be a huge veteran's manager also...so, no.
