Thoughts Following Game 1 - From a Phillies Fan
Greetings from Philadelphia and your sister blog the Good Phight. Following last night's Phillies win, I posted some thoughts about the game and the matchup over at our blog. I invite you to check them out and offer your comments: Some Thoughts After Phillies/Dodgers Game 1. Here's a taste:
"The big loser last night was Rafael Furcal. He was touted in the press before the game and by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver during the game as the big difference-maker for the Dodgers. They told me he was the best hitter on the planet (ever?) in the beginning of the season until he got hurt. And, now that he's back at the top of the Dodgers' lineup, the team was unstoppable. Well, let's check that thought for a bit. Last night he was 0 for 4 at the plate. He never looked comfortable against Cole Hamels. Even one hit or walk would have been a game changer, as he hit in front of the two Dodgers who did manage to hit last night - Andre Ethier and Manny Ramirez (both 2 for 4 with a double apiece). In the field, his error was the game changer. He let Shane Victorino get on base in the sixth, paving the way for Lowe's melt-down and Utley's home run."

Mock him today, regret it tomorrow.
Getting worked up over anything that Buck and McCarver have to say seems pathetic. Maybe on the East Coast they consider the twinkie boys to be representative of intelligent baseball thought but on the West Coast we pay about as much attention to the Twinkie boys as we do to the ESPN idiot chamber.
Furcal wore the horns for game one so big deal. He is a catalyst but was unable to figure out one of the best pitchers in baseball. Rollins and Victorino didn’t exactly do their job as table setters for Utely and Howard. Getting on because of an error doesn’t really count as doing your job.
Even with the loss Dodger fans can take plenty of good from the game. It took an error for the Phillies to win a game they had to win. The Phillies were unable to touch Park and Maddux two of our worse bullpen pitchers. Kuo was healthy which will come into play at some some point. Manny’s ball is a home run anywhere but that spot. It was a great game, someone had to be the goat and this time it was Furcal. Trust me there isn’t a Dodger fan who knows diddly squat who doesn’t want Furcal instead of Berroa in the lineup.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
