Time To Fork Stab Ned
It took three games this year for Ned Colletti to shoot himself in the foot, a new personal best. In order to add a seventh arm to an over worked bullpen, the Dodgers have DFA'd Angel Chavez and put Chan Ho Park on the 25 man roster. I've already covered in great detail exactly how badly Chan Ho Park sucks, so I'll avoid that again. Hopefully, Park's innings are limited, he lucks into a few good outings, and we release him with everyone ending up happy (well, maybe not Chan Ho). But in the near future, if you plan on sitting in the pavillion at Dodger Stadium, I'd bring a glove.

Of Course
We should wish that Chan Ho Park does badly the entire time. If he does well, Ned will likely sign him to a contract extension. Then cut Andruw Jones, and force Joe Torre to start Juan Pierre in CF.

What't the big deal
he's the 12 pitcher on the staff. His job is to pitch when were getting our butts kicked so we don't waste innings on the other options.
Some one has to allow the opposition to pad their offensive stats and using Chavez in 3 games shows how much he was needed.
Plus I expect Torre asked for Chan Ho.
Hull would have been a better option but his work on the sidelines must not have been as impressive as his ERA in a hitters park in a hitter league.

If Park gets used only in garbage time, then fine, but is there any reason to not give this job to Eric Stults?

Forking stabbing Torre is also approved in this situation.

I Think Having 12 Pitchers Is A Waste
And if the 12th pitcher is so bad that he only gets put out there during a blowout win or loss, then what's the point of having him? How often does this situation happen anyway? Enough for a roster spot? All of our starters should be capable of going 7 innings a night. And if one gets bombed, throw Kuo out for long relief. 6 relievers is enough.
I'd rather have the extra roster spot for offensive flexibility off the bench. While maybe not extremely important, I think it's a better use of a roster spot than it is for the 12th pitcher.

chan-ho has been terrible since he left in '02...
whether it was injuries, or whatever.
but after seeing him pitch a few times this spring, i think there's a chance (just a chance, mind you) that he can make a decent to good contribution to the team.

i agree w/ the fish
its not like park will be pitching every 5th day or is asked to get 150 maybe 100 innings. i think there may be a better option than park however having 12 pitchers can not hurt..look at the game the other night. billings comes in the 5th. the bullpen was tired. loaiza was warming up preparing to pitch extra inns and hes the 5th starter..which i guess wont be needed till next week since we were off tonight. i guess what im trying to say in a game like wed night w/ starters relieving and relievers starting it wouldnt have been a bad idea to have somebody else that could have thrown.

It Seems Odd
That on one hand, one can say that Park is terrible, and on the other, it's not a big deal to have said terrible player on our team.
Fish,
Can't we pick out countless cases of guys with good spring training stats who don't produce during the season? We all remember Jason Romano's last spring training with the Dodgers. Tore it up, never heard from again (at least we traded him beforehand).
Hollywood,
As for the scenario you just described, what are the odds of that particular one happening again? I'd say it's pretty much certain that it never happens again this season. And what are the chances that a starter starts the game and then it gets rain delayed long enough for a starter to have to be pulled? Not too many, and certainly not something you really need a contingency plan for.
And yes, ultimately, this move won't have too much impact on the season because Park will probably be gone sooner rather than later and a different pitcher in his place wouldn't pitch much, either, and (another man on the bench would also not be used a lot, either). However, the main point is that it's a bad move. It's an easily recognizable bad move. I can understand having 12th pitchers around, and sometimes it's nice, like when Andy Ashby sucked so bad, that Wilson Alvarez would have to complete his starts. That was pretty much 4 IP for Alvarez every 5 days, so it was nice to have another pitcher then. I would prefer another bench player, but I can understand the 12th pitcher. However, we have better options than Chan Ho Park . And as one might so easily recognize in baseball, the GMs who make small mistakes are usually inclined to make big mistakes. Of course, we care less about the small mistake, but this small mistake is still a mistake. One that could have easily been avoided. And it makes me nervous, as it shows that Ned Colletti is still in a particular mindset, a particular mindset he has been in throughout his tenure with the Dodgers, a mindset that has caused him to make more bad moves than good ones.

calm down
i don't know what the big deal is. chan ho's not great, but his greatest days were as a dodger. he's sucked away from LA, but he has yet to show otherwise as a dodger. at the least, i think he can be good enough to be a fifth starter.
as far as i'm concerned, he's better than loaiza. loaiza's been pathetic ever since we've picked him up. i don't think i've ever seen him pitch in a game where he didn't give up a run. this guy is as washed up as they come. if we should be complaining about anything, it should be about loaiza being our fifth starter. loaiza sucks

Re:
Never mind that fact that Loiaza has outpitched Park in every season since Chan Ho left LA. Why bother with details when a few starts in Sept is something to hang your hat on.

Pray Giovanni Carrara's soul transposed itself into Chan Ho's body doesn't seem like a great strategy.
