Game Thread 6/11: San Diego Padres

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres, Jun 11, 2008 7:05 PM PDT

LaRoche is starting and I can actually sit down and watch a game for the first time in a couple weeks? Awesome.

It is interesting that LaRoche is hitting in front of DeWitt.

Edgar Gonzalez looks pretty bad defensively.

LaRoche? Walks? Absurd!

That was a fitting start for Andy.

I’m curious about what the Dodgers would look like today if DeWitt had a .600 OPS in his first 20 games instead of his last 20.

Does anyone think that DeWitt’s scored his job more now because of his ‘attitude’ than his awesome play?

by Tango and Cash on Jun 11, 2008 7:42 PM PDT reply actions

I wouldn’t say that, he had a .935 OPS in his first 35 games. He’s earned the right to slump a bit. The question is when you decided it’s too much.

I mean right now. At this point, it seems you would want to put LaRoche into that spot. He’s better.

by Tango and Cash on Jun 11, 2008 7:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I do agree, but I’m thinking from a political standpoint you have to give DeWitt some more rope.

His OPS and PrOPS are starting to normalize so DeWitt still has a chance to be productive, preferably with him at second and LaRoche at third.

This stat's for you, Andrew....

Because LaRoche walked during his plate appearance this evening, Andy’s home run came during his first official At Bat of this season!

Cheers to The Roach!

Your leadoff hitter should always ground out on the first pitch.

Although, in Pierre’s defense, it looked like it was straight down the middle according to gameday.

by Tango and Cash on Jun 11, 2008 8:15 PM PDT reply actions

Pierre hitting it on the ground is for the best.

I was more referring to the fact that Pierre wouldn’t take a pitch rather than him hitting it on the ground.

I remember when I went to a Reds-Dodgers game about 2 years ago, when Maddux almost threw a no-no but left the game due to a rain delay. I heard the most boring heckler ever. His most consistent heckle was “This guy ain’t got nothing, he’s AAA!” What might have been meaningful if he had saved it for one truly bad Dodger was rendered meaningless due to him using it on every other player.

He also told Eric Milton “To throw the heat,” presumably not knowing that Eric Milton was a soft-tossing lefty.

The guy literally gave me a headache, not because he was heckling the Dodgers, but his heckles were so inane that I couldn’t stand it.

I thought all Milton had was a high fastball.

Ryan Howard is running circles around Cust. 89-69. But still, Kemp, stop striking out and become Dave Winfield already.
