Game Thread 7/1: Houston Astros
Los Angeles Dodgers at Houston Astros, Jul 1, 2008 5:05 PM PDT
So for the seventh time, something keeps me from watching a Kershaw start. I'm starting to get really tired of this.

I’m sorry I haven’t been here more often lately. I just got Netflix. And Netflix Watch Instantly is addicting. I know that I’m “The Party,” and things aren’t as lively here without me.
Tonight's line up is mind boggling
I mean I guess it makes sense sort of in a baseball traditionalist way, but still.
Torre was such a lousy choice of manager for this team.

Yeah I saw your post
I guess I’m not sold on Kemp in the lead off spot.
I guess given who is healthy if they aren’t going to bat Martin lead off then Kemp probably does make the most sense.
I hope Furcal is healthy soon.

At least the eight best players are playing. That’s all I can ask for.

And the Astros are still starting Wiggles. So it’s like a double win for us.

Do they have anyone better? Honest question.

I doubt it. But I’m just amused that they traded for Wiggles in the first place. And I just like to bring him up so I can call him Wiggles.

But he can hit home runs and play like six positions really badly. How could you pass on that?
Who’d they trade anyway, Wheeler?

Correct.
Also, if you type in “Wiggles” into baseball reference, some baseball player from the 20’s-30’s pops up.

Hitting home runs and playing 6 positions badly
is better than you can say about a lot of mediocre players out there. The Mariners are giving a roster spot to Miguel Cairo and the best thing they’ve been able to say about him this year is that he’s a veteran (re: old) and can field bunts really well!

It’s probably from the rush he gets when he steals video games from Target with his son.

There’s no way that would be funnier if I knew what you were talking about.

You’re probably right, so I’ll go out on top!

This is now Kershaw's 2nd longest outing
if he gets this last out its tied for his longest.

That’s what I get for making a chipotle run.

At least you got Chipotle. I’ve eaten that twice in two days since I’ve been back in Chipotle land.

The Chipotle represents the fact that I’m here all night and I needed 1200 calories to sustain me. It’s a depressing Chipotle.

Chipotle can never be depressing! Just imagine living in a place without Chipotle!

Sounds like good plan
Ugh I leave work to go home and this game becomes shit.

Ironically, Pierre probably catches that.

broxton and saito
aren’t pitching as well as they have been the past 2 years. but then again, they don’t get to pitch much with all the losing
respect
as much as i wanted to see pierre out of the lineup in favor of kemp or ethier in the beginning of the season, pierre has really gained my appreciation and respect. other than his throwing arm, you can’t ask for much more from a player. much respect for pierre
Chan Ho is keeping me from making Chan Blow Park jokes. It’s a litle depressing.

DeWitt
with Dewitt coming back down to earth, and Garciaparra probably taking over short, will we see more of a platoon at third with LaRoche?
hmm...
i read your post on why we should send DeWitt down, but i can’t say i completely agree. LaRoche still hasn’t proven that’s he’s major league ready. at least Dewitt has had a “56 plate appearance” stretch. LaRoche hasn’t even had a solid 3 game stretch yet
LaRoche has the minor league track record, DeWitt doesn’t. DeWitt’s OPS is about .705 now. Andy needs the chance.

It’s kind of hard to say LaRoche hasn’t proven himself, when the Dodgers won’t give him a legitimate chance to prove himself in the majors.
