Game Thread 7/2: Houston Astros

Los Angeles Dodgers at Houston Astros, Jul 2, 2008 5:05 PM PDT

Prior to the game, Clayton Kershaw was sent down to make room for Hiroki Kuroda on the active roster. I do like this move overall, because we really do need to limit Kershaw's innings this year, and this could make him available for a stretch run. It also removes the slim chance he could have recieved arbitration this year. However, Kershaw is certainly a better pitcher than Eric Stults, so losing him does make the team worse in the short term.

If Stults can keep up his smoke and mirrors act for a few more starts

then it won’t hurt too much. The sooner teams figure Stults out though the worse this becomes.

Hopefully now that Kershaw has had some time in the bigs he’ll be able to work on that walk problem…

Interesting stat: DeWitt has an OPS under .400 when the first pitch is a strike, and over 1.000 when it’s a ball.

Squeeze!

I love the squeeze. Only time I really like bunting.

Does anyone hate the squeeze?

How did Jones do in AAA tonight? If he’s healthy and hitting, we might have a very good offense again.

first at-bat, he hit a 3-0 popup to the right fielder. second at-bat, he hit the first pitch he saw to the second baseman. didn’t catch his other at-bats bcuz i left the game early.
