what a shitty lineup tonight

What did we as Dodger fans ever do to deserve such a schmuck as Ned Colletti as a GM? This trade just moved him into the Top 3 of worst GMs in the league.

i too am underwhelmed.

separately: Wouldn’t it be great to get to see Andre Ethier play baseball sometime? I guess I’m just a dreamer.

i dont mind the deal. Blake is solid, not spectacular and the Dodgers didnt give up much. Can’t see the game tonight, the MLB package blocks out all Nats and O’s games in North Carolina. I don’t get it???

Casey Blake is a pretty good player. He hits for a decent average, walks a good deal, and has a decent amount of power, but we didn’t need Blake at all. Why trade for two prospects when LaRoche can give you Blake’s total production, as even if Blake is the better hitter right now, LaRoche (and DeWitt) are way better fielders. It’s just a guy we didn’t really need, but due to Torre’s and Colletti’s infatuation with veterans, we now have a guy we didn’t really need. It’s not the smartest way to spend your prospects.

Those MLB blackout rules suck. I’m from Calif. ... went to Vegas one time to discover that EVERY California team is blocked out there! That’s 1/3 of all MLB games that you can never see. Vegas subscribers should demand a discount.

And of course Fox gets exclusives on every Saturday afternoon game, so I couldn’t see the Phillies/Braves even though they weren’t on TV in my market. Yippee.

MLB really has to do something about this. I might not re-up on MLB TV next year because of it; why encourage them?

I think it’s because both starters we’ve faced since Jones has come back were both lefties. Let’s see what happens when we get a righty, (presumably tomorrow?).

by Tango and Cash on Jul 26, 2008 7:25 PM PDT up reply actions

eh, you’re probably right. I’m just bitter that Juan Pierre has turned out to be halfway competent.

by YeagerMeister on Jul 26, 2008 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Give him time. He can still tank.

Martin!

(its only a double, so he doesn’t get all-caps)

Perez

I can’ t believe there are still organizations that believe he can pitch. He’s terrible.

casey blake

comes in leading the dodgers in HR, RBI and OPS. not the worst trade in the world considering we didn’t lose any starters or top prospects. hopefully this will take the pressure off laroche and allow him to develop into the player everyone thinks he can be. although it does take away his current playing time

by CSon on Jul 26, 2008 8:42 PM PDT reply actions

actually, that’s a good argument.

by YeagerMeister on Jul 26, 2008 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions

How is it going to let LaRoche develop when he’s on the bench?! The only way he can develop as a player is if he actually plays, which is what this trade doesn’t allow him to do.

Hell of a game tonight by Lowe.

by the big grabowski on Jul 26, 2008 9:06 PM PDT reply actions

will they let him go the distance? 107 pitches…

by YeagerMeister on Jul 26, 2008 9:09 PM PDT up reply actions

107 pitches, I’m glad they didn’t let him finish it.

by the big grabowski on Jul 26, 2008 9:17 PM PDT reply actions

Although I would have thought that Beimel would be able to go the whole inning. Not sure the point of bringing Wade.
