Game Thread 7/27: Washington Nationals
Washington Nationals at Los Angeles Dodgers, Jul 27, 2008 1:10 PM PDT
Kershaw X: In Space
Prior to the game, Andy LaRoche was optioned to make room for Mark Sweeney. Really.
Here's the OPS+ numbers of our bench today:
Ozuna: 70
Ardoin: 46
Berroa: 40
Jones: 36
Sweeney: -18
On the bright side, we'll have Ethier and Kemp on the bench a lot more often, so that'll help.

I love it when lead off hitters have a one pitch at bat. That’s a real lead off at bat.

Sadly, Kent and Martin aren’t right now.

But
He’s the second fastest on the team. Which means he is second best at knowing how to lead off.

dammit
2 foul pop outs with a man on 3rd? gosh! and seriously…laroche down for sweeney? when is laroche going to get his shot?
But then where would we put Eckstein?

Or Ray Durham? You can never have too many savvy veterans, right? Look what it did for the Giants the last few years….

Oh sweet GIDP by the new Dodger. Is he going to play every game for the rest of the season?
by the big grabowski on Jul 27, 2008 1:35 PM PDT reply actions
I’d rather see him than Ardoin or Ozuna

Of course he’s better than Ardoin or Ozuna. I’m wondering who is the backup 3B. Martin? Nomar?

sorry, that was mean to go a lot further up. i guess i approve of whatever message is above that one.

Heh, Kent looked like he was in pain catching that throw at first.

kershaw
we’re backin him up today with the best possible lineup. other than kent, everyone is hitting above .270. not too shabby
I’m really sad that Nomar really is the best option out there.

Not sure i like it—i wanted stults to get more of a chance.
Looks like Johnson will face the Giants, so if he does well, it doesn’t mean much…

Now 0 for 3 with a bad bad looking strikeout. Yeah, that’s probably the last we’re ever seeing of Andre. Andruw’s Ks are so much more veteran-savvy.

Oh hell yeah! That is not gritty baserunning by the Nats.

Yeah that’s right Paulie. You’re out.

Heads up there. Looks like he might have been safe though.

I’m just going remain in denial and believe that he was safe.

Does anyone else find the latent homosexuality in beer commercials odd?

It’s just about the Bromance.
Which ad are you talking about?
by the big grabowski on Jul 27, 2008 2:27 PM PDT up reply actions
It’s pretty much the same idea in all of them. I could rail my wife, but instead I’m going to sneak out and have a beer with Ricky.
Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN
Yeah, I thinks it’s more of, the wife doesn’t let me act like an 18 year old and drink beer and watch sports. I need to come up with a clever way to get away from her. Still odd.

Nah, Coors light is awesome!
Bwahahahahha, sorry couldn’t say that with a straight face.

Nomar is gone, and I am sad.
I’m scared.

It would really suck if you had to change the subhead of the site.

Yes. I think Dewitt is playing second in Vegas. Of course I’d rather see LaRoche play second.
by the big grabowski on Jul 27, 2008 2:38 PM PDT reply actions
DeWitt seems more suited to it, he’s smaller.

I just I should have just said I’d rather see LaRoche over Dewitt, no matter the position.

great…nomar left with an “irritation of the knee”. let’s hope it’s nothing. otherwise we’re screwed. it’ll be back to berroa as the starter
I fear your earlier comment is right—we’ve got a Jack Wilson in our future.
by YeagerMeister on Jul 27, 2008 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions
Thing is I wouldn’t even mind Wilson except we’re going to give them Andy instead of Greg Miller or something.
Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN
Konerko at least got to start consecutive games.
Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN
Yeah I wouldn’t mind Jack Wilson. He is much better than Berroa. But not for whatever we’re going to give the Pirates. Maybe I’m feeling optimistic, but I don’t think that LaRoche will be traded for Wilson. It’s just too dumb.
by the big grabowski on Jul 27, 2008 3:12 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah, but really, THAT dumb? Ok, don’t answer that. But I have to think that Logan White would do everything to stop that trade. It’s just insanity

Awesome to see people here today
I hope Nomar isn’t hurt just because I don’t trust Coletti.
The poster formerly known as Matt.
It’s really nice that Ethier has his own FSN commercial now. Too bad he never plays anymore.
