DeWitt killed Andy LaRoche

there is no other explanation.

Everytime DeWitt gets a hit, I cringe because I know that means Torre has an excuse to keep him in the lineup another week.

That makes two of us

Managers can be so dumb sometimes.

DeWitt probably bought himself another month with his hot streak of two games.

It’s getting to the point where I’m going to hate DeWitt through no fault of his own, but solely because Torre won’t start playing LaRoche because of him.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:36 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Did anyone see the new Plaschke article where he says that “Dewitt is a ballplayer”? It’s up on FJM right now.

I’m actually amazed i didn’t get stabbed at the game last night. The main topic of conversation I had was how much DeWitt and Nomar suck.

How upset was everybody?

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Not very, but I had a pretty good amount of tequila at that point so it might have been hard to notice.

Good start for Lowe

2GO 1SO.

Good second inning too

only 7 pitches and another 2 GO.

The poster formerly known as Matt.

Perfect through 3.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:39 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

11 pitches that inning

not bad, Hudson made him work, heh.

5-1 GO to FO very good.

2 more ground outs.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:49 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Maza has the same stance as Furcal. I got confused for a second.

I’m sure the constant Maza ground outs help you differentiate the two.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:44 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

They help. I wonder if Lowe would be happier with Maza, Kent, or Andy behind him.

This Pirates argument on the other thread below is going to be neverending.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:48 PM PDT   0 recs

Dear God. I never thought saying “the Pirates are a hopeless team” would be a contreversial statement.

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

by Andrew on Jul 9, 2008 7:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I can’t really help but respond, but this isn’t an isolate case. It seems that a lot of Pirates fans on the Pirates blog have deluded themselves into thinking that a) Jack Wilson is really good at baseball and b) the Pirates should not trade him.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:53 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I did buy into their argument that trading him does leave them with a SS hole worse than LAs. (At least Nomar is still a respectable hitter for an SS.)

by El Lay Dave on Jul 9, 2008 7:54 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I agree but by the time they can actually contend they can draft and develop one. If the Pirates are trying to contend before 2012, then fire Huntington.

by Andrew on Jul 9, 2008 7:56 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I think Jack Wilson is a little underrated but he’s at best decent. These people realize that they aren’t making the playoffs this year, they’re hopeless defensively and at best mediocre at everything else, right? And that they have no farm system to speak of?

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

I wouldn't include Nady with Wilson in a trade for Kemp

Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Ha. I need a drink.

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

by Andrew on Jul 9, 2008 7:57 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes. I also enjoyed that. Maybe they don’t want to give up Nady because they can pretend he’s really, really good and it helps them forget that they got ripped off by the Mets.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 7:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I can’t judge a blog based on it’s commenters because Charlie is one of the best here, but, wow they’re delusional. They want to keep a team together that’s 11.5 back

by Andrew on Jul 9, 2008 8:02 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I didn’t mean to criticize the blog. I merely meant wanted you to look at the comments so you could see that a lot of Pirates’ fans think like this, and honestly, I’m not sure why.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 8:03 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sadly, this is the best team they’ve had in like 15 years. I can see why they might be excited about it.

Still who the hell thinks “let’s hold on to our mediocre guys” is a valid strategy.

The Mariners front office

:(

The poster formerly known as Matt.

by bluemax on Jul 9, 2008 8:08 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ex-front office at least.

I mean, would they get excited if they went out and signed Pedro Feliz this offseason?

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

by Andrew on Jul 9, 2008 8:08 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Given the Sabathia and Harden trades and the package received for them, we probably shouldn’t need to give up much to get Jack Wilson, especially if we pay 100% of his salary, so I’m confused on why these fans want so much for their mediocre players. McDonald, Kemp, or Kershaw? Really?

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 8:10 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Exactly. The A’s basically got two bench players and set back Gaudin’s service time by three years for Harden. One of the five best pitchers in baseball was worth a guy who’s maybe as valuable as Andy.

Jack Wilson is worth, at best, Jonathan Meloan, and the Pirates would be fools not to do it.

Glow?

I think Andruw Jones is worth all this money because listening to the crowd boo everytime he makes an out has become entertaining.

by Tango and Cash on Jul 9, 2008 8:07 PM PDT   0 recs

I was unironically cheering Andruw last night which probably didn’t make me any friends either.

Best Andruw Jones moment of the year for me

was the game against Houston where Backe was pitching. I was at that game, and he got booed to hell and back until the inning he came up with runners on and clubbed a long just foul ball. The crowd started roaring and believing he could hit something hard.

He ended up getting on thanks to an error of a blooper to LF.

So hmm

yesterday’s game seems really weird considering the day before and today.

I guess after seeing the no hitter I was due for a really terrible one.

I did get to see a guy try to break dance to Stronger before security beat his ass. That was pretty entertaining.

I learned today that the press doesn’t like Kemp because he likes that hip hop music. I don’t think people realize that even the whitest college kids will bump Kayne at all times.

I just wish someone would come out and say that Plaschke doesn’t like Kemp because he’s black. Then Plaschke would be so scared that everyone would think he was a racist, that he’d start talking about how great Kemp really is.

I endorse this

actually I’d rather just have Plaschke fired.

How bad is the electricity crisis? This is the 2nd commercial on LA radio that I’ve heard about it.

If Gregor Blanco were named Reggie Willits he’d be the most beloved man in baseball. Look at that scrappy .270/.380/.330 line.

Neyer Chat

I remember when Neyer first broke the ESPN chat record, and somebody asked him this:

Matt (Kansas City): If you were running a team, and your only two choices to play shortstop were Angel Berroa and Neifi Perez, who would you pick? Mike Sweeney?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: Oh, Perez. Easily. At least he can actually play the position. Berroa might be the worst player in the majors, as he doesn’t do anything well. Just an absolute disaster.
