Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Penny, Wade To The DL

Brad Penny and Cory Wade have been placed on the DL and taking their places will be Eric Stults and new member of the 40 man Tanyon Sturtze. The 37 year old Sturtze has thrown 10 big league innings since 2005 and was unimpressive for Jacksonville and Las Vegas this year. In 51.1 innings Sturtze struck out 39, walked 18 and allowed six home runs.

When you give up fringe prospect after fringe prospect that you'll "never miss" in random deals, you have to turn to Tanyon Sturtze down the stretch. So it goes.

I have Tanyon Sturtze's autograph

on a couple of things, right next to Jason Giambi’s. Back when they were both prospects in AAA for my home town team the Tacoma Tigers (now Rainiers). Got them while at the opening of a Safeway in my neighborhood.

If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.

Well, if you hadn’t gotten it then, you could get it in about two years when Sturtze is working at that Safeway. Zing!

McDonald’s seen as a future starter, so maybe we didn’t want to throw off his future development.

No idea why on Elbert.

I hate veteran presence jokes, but that’s pretty much the only explanation.

your making excuses...

the stupidity of this org. never ceases to amaze me. just by sheer age sturze magically eclipses the other two.mcd was already on the 40 man and elbert will need to be added no? even if they get called up in sept neither will pitch a meaningful inning. i hate this team.

I don’t think that was an excuse.

WHERE IS JAMES MCDONALD???

by the big grabowski on Aug 14, 2008 5:45 PM PDT reply actions

Eric Hull

might be nice right about now. You just knew that Sturtz would find his way onto our roster once we signed him as a minor league free agent.

Heck I’d rather have the guy pitching in the Olympics(Koplov)

Elbert just threw 2 innings last night and McDonald started recently so they would have been useless for the next few days. Johnson relieved Penny so he probably slots into his rotation spot with the S & S boys handling bullpen duty.

We are going to miss Wade, he was surprisingly effective.

Wait a second --

Penny’s back on the DL?
