Not a good start…

Key to making playoffs: Keeping Joel Pineiro; trading Anthony Reyes.

by Tango and Cash on Aug 6, 2008 5:31 PM PDT reply actions

Has Reyes been there before? I don’t think so.

(Has Piniero?)

2001 ALCS against the Yankees:

1 G, 2 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 ER

Pineiro has to be clutch to have a line like that and only give up one run in 2 IP. No matter that he let 6 guys on, because he’s so clutch that he’ll escape any jam.

by Tango and Cash on Aug 6, 2008 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Reyes

Actually Reyes won game 1 of the 2006 WS. Gave up 2 runs in 8+ innings.

What are the odds anybody yells “Pablo” in a Dodger Gamethread this season?

I’ve given a Berroa! or two so anything is possible.

Yeah, I’m at something like 37 hours for the week right now. It’s good, cheap coffee but I think it’s giving me an ulcer.

I feel your pain

until I got sick last week I had worked 50+ hours the previous two weeks and had come in at least once each weekend.

Fortunately not. I’ve said it about myself though.

I’m actually impressed I haven’t gotten sick. I haven’t been awake in my apartment on a weekday for a while.

Yeah the sick part sucked

I was thinking to myself, “the only thing that doesn’t suck in my life right now is my health.”

The I got the flu.

I’ve never seen a SS bat 9th in the NL before.

LaRussa does this a lot

it works for him for some reason.

Studies have shown it actually is a good idea to hit your second worst guy ninth.

I think I've read that

Tony LaRussa is probably one of 3-4 major league managers who have also read it.

Remember back in the day when we thought giving up Felipe Lopez and Austin Kearns for a couple relievers was highway robbery.

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

by Andrew on Aug 6, 2008 5:46 PM PDT reply actions

Well, you can either believe that a) Wayne Krivsky somehow knew Kearns and Lopez would collapse when nobody else did, and is therefore an astute judge of talent or b) an idiot who got lucky.

by Tango and Cash on Aug 6, 2008 5:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Like 90% B. Trading them wasn’t a bad idea, it’s just trading them for nothing was the bad idea.

Kemp!

by Andrew on Aug 6, 2008 5:51 PM PDT reply actions

Does anybody else here think that Colletti, who we all know is desperately trying to save his job, finally decided to listen to these ‘stat guys,’ since everything he has tried with his type of player has failed, and ordered Torre to start Ethier over Pierre? I’m quite surprised he’s played so much, given Torre said that Pierre was our starting CF.

by Tango and Cash on Aug 6, 2008 5:53 PM PDT reply actions

I think Torre is just consulting his magic eight ball right now.

Though we haven’t won a game without Pierre and Manny starting. Take that stat guys.

Joe Sheehan had an article on this today, though I really don’t like that he heavily implies that Pierre singlehandedly destroys the offense.

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

by Andrew on Aug 6, 2008 5:56 PM PDT up reply actions

I would replace ‘implies’ with ‘stating.’ He’s pretty strong on that point, I think. He does say we score half as many runs as we do with Pierre than without him.

by Tango and Cash on Aug 6, 2008 5:58 PM PDT up reply actions

I was being nice to him.

by Tango and Cash on Aug 6, 2008 6:03 PM PDT up reply actions

The MLB.com

pre game article stated that RF is now between Ethier and Pierre. I’ll take Ethier every day if possible.
