I don’t know what’s worse. Any Dodger fan who defended that signing, or my friend a Twins fan, who defended trading Johan Santana because he wasn’t ‘the best pitcher in the league’ which is not true (and even if he wasn’t, still Top-5 and worth the money), and because Nathan and Morneau were more important to sign.

On another note, I don’t mind Morneau and he’s a good player, but I hope the Twins don’t win the division. Otherwise, he’ll get another MVP he doesn’t deserve.

Dodger Fever: Catch it every summer, head to the ER every October.

by Tango and Cash on Sep 23, 2008 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I talked a lot of smack about Morneau coming into this year, saying he’s had one good year in four.

I was really right about giving Cuddyer a three year extension being totally retarded though.

What is the Twins’ front office philosophy:

by Andrew on Sep 23, 2008 7:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I read somewhere that A-Rod called the M’s asking them not to draft him because his dad wanted him to play for the Dodgers. Stupid Seattle. With the money we had around the 2000 offseason, had we drafted A-Rod, we probably could’ve given him that gigantic contract because we were still giving out huge contracts then. He’d be a lifelong Dodger!

I’d honestly say that Joe Morgan is my favorite color man. He may say a lot of dumb things about stats, but he also explains more baseball strategy than any other color man I’ve seen, which is what I like to hear.

Speaking of dumb stat talk, the Yankee game on Sunday was horrendous. I’ve never seen so many people openly talk about their crush on Atrocious Scott Brosius.

Dodger Fever: Catch it every summer, head to the ER every October.

by Tango and Cash on Sep 23, 2008 8:12 PM PDT up reply actions

I gotta agree there, if ex-athletes spent more time in the booth talking about how hard it is to hit a Rivera cutter, they’d be way more tolerable.

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

by Andrew on Sep 23, 2008 8:15 PM PDT up reply actions

I remember one time Morgan said he knew the pitcher was about to throw a curve, because even though he didn’t know the pitching signs, the catcher didn’t ask for a location, which meant the pitcher was going to throw a curve because they’re only attempting to throw that in for a strike, rather than get it in a specific location. Sure enough, it was a curve. I never hear that stuff from guys like Monday.

Co-Author Of The Fourth Most Popular NL West Based Blog On SBN

by Andrew on Sep 23, 2008 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions

I didn’t see a ton of O’Neill love, but the game was terrible, which led me to turning it off after awhile. Reggie Jackson was in the booth for awhile, and then he and Morgan were explaining how stats don’t tell the whole story of the player, then brought up Scott Brosius. What was worse was when Jackson mentioned the Top 5 Yankees of all time (he said Rivera was in there, which is crazy), and Morgan said Jackson was in his Top 5. Jackson didn’t even mention himself as being in his own Top 5! Jackson was a Yankee for 5 seasons! How do you justify him as a Top 5 Yankee! Ruth! Gehrig! DiMaggio! Mantle! Berra!

Probably not, but he’s just so much of a better hitter than anyone else you have to take him. His OPS+ is 16 points ahead of Ted Williams, who was a terrible fielder, and 26 ahead of Bonds who could field when he became God.

The worst part of that trade was Lasorda’s reasoning that his body wouldn’t hold up to starting pitching. His brother was just as lanky as Pedro was, and he was pretty much fine. Lasorda should publicly apologize to Dodger fans for that trade every year on Opening Day. Don’t even do the National Anthem that day. Just him getting on the mic and apologizing.
