He also probably plays guitar badly. I hate how every white guy on the A’s plays guitar. They probably all sit around and sing John Mayer songs terribly. It’s like having 5 Bronson Arroyos on your team.

Fantastic. If you’re a film buff, there’s also a lot of small burns throughout the movie that you’ll get. Like they showed these fake trailers of the main actors, and Robert Downey Jr’s artsy movie was made by “Fox Searchlight Pictures.” I laughed at that, but nobody else did. It was funny, damn it!

I agree partially, but it wasn’t the huge win it’s made out to be. Bradley has like twice the VORP of Ethier since he left.

Blake could be extremely valuable in the OF, where he’d be a plus-defender in RF with “suber-sub” abilities on his off-days (LF, 1B, 3B). But, no, there’s something managers see when they look into those eyes and see that beard. Gritty. Oh so gritty!

As long as he can play great D in CF, I don’t think he’ll ever be a 4th OF, like Willy Taveras.

but that OPS…so horrid…

I dunno. I guess I feel like today’s CFers hit better than that, even those who are starting because of their gloves.

Or maybe Sizemore has completely ruined my ability to think about this issue.

by Voltaire on Sep 5, 2008 9:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Both play much better D than Sizemore, though. His D in CF actually looks to be slightly below average.

Even some Indians fans are saying this, and I just don’t get it. Evaluating defense always seems to go like this:

Nationally unknown player has stellar defense.
Player becomes a national star.
Player’s defense is now considered over-rated.

It’s like the indie-rock rule of defense, and it makes me inherently skeptical of defensive ratings. I’ll go look up some defensive metrics on him.

Who’s defense is overrated? Sizemore’s?
