When can we close?

I've noticed now that Saito is a RedSox's property that now Johny Broxton is forced into being a closer.Yes he has been preparing for this role in the past two years. The question is really hanging out there. Can he close and for how long?Other than Mo Rivera of the Yank's no other closer in the game is a constant. We have filler in's and mix of set up and closer or even just the all closer by commity. does he have it for the Dodgers and remain as the closer for now and the future? I don't think so.i feel that there needs to another presence in the end of the bullpen.Besides his huge presence we need someone who can bring the big nasty, and i do not believe Broxton has that. Yes he does have a pretty wild fastball. There does need to be that guy in the end of the game that the opposing team is wishing that that guy on the bench does not get in the game.I do see Broxton closing, but not for long.Who is going to be the setup guy to give him the ball?so i ask can we close now?

Broxton is fine

Broxton & Kuo in the back end of the bullpen gives the Dodgers a combo that almost all teams would wish for.

Also, are you saying there are no other “constant” closers other than Rivera? What about Joe Nathan, Jonathan Papelbon, Frankie Rodriguez, etc? If you are expecting Broxton to be as good as Rivera, you are creating unrealistic expectations that can never be met.

More than a couple of years

i am talking about a complete future with Broxton not just a couple of seasons. Gagne was good for a couple is that all Broxton will be?

and?

you can add some insurance depth but there’s no real way to figure who’s gonig to be constant and who’s not… there are decent educated guesses. but they’re still guesses.

Also, closers is overrated anyway, they don’t do anything different than other relievers aside from being the last to come up, as for consistent, Todd Jones was pretty consistent, does that mean he’s good?

Mariano Rivera is the all time leader in ERA+ by a mile, the chances of a starter posing 200 ERA+ for his career is basically 0, and the chances of a 200+ ERA reliever being able to pass 1000 inning is also quiet low.

Broxton and Kuo

I think the jury is still out on Broxton as being the ace closer he is expected to be. I know he has some good stats, but he still isn’t quite there in his head (which all great closers are). As far as Kuo . . . I don’t see how he can be counted on with that fragile arm of his. When he’s healthy, yeah, he looks great. We’ll seen about those 8th and 9th innings this year—which isn’t what Boston or the Mets are having to say.
