Baseball moves backstage
All eyes should be on our Nations Capitol the next 48 hours as history and hope mix together in preparation for a moment most of us never thought possible. Most celebrations are hokey endeavors but this one feels just right. After a 1/2 century of life my heart rarely gets stirred these days unless sports are involved, but stirred it has been as we count down to a new era in United State politics. Right now it is spring training and the new kid in town is going to lead us to the championship. I know deep down in my heart disappointment will follow but I can't help myself from falling for his skills and the expectations this his shoulders will be wide enough to shoulder the load of a team in deep trouble.
I have many hopes for our country but my biggest hope is that we have only one VP during the next four years. Our Jackie Robinson paved the way for some of the greatest players to ever grace the game. With so much to do I can only hope our new president will make us as proud as Jackie Robinson made us.
THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
words and music by Woody Guthrie
Chorus:
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!
Chorus
In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.
Chorus (2x)

I had no idea Pete Seeger is 89!
That was a really cool moment, with Seeger and Bruce leading the song, especially since the whole song was played! Very rare indeed.

I didn't vote for Obama and I don't think he'll be a good president
but here’s to hoping I am wrong and we have a great next four years!!

Same with me...
Didn’t vote for him, but hope he and our country do well under his term(s). To me, he is a politician more than anything. Politics and politicians are dirty, and I really don’t get my undies in a bunch with this lead-up to the innauguration. In fact, I think it’s a little bit over the top. It’s great that the first half-african american is going to be president, but nothing to be too excited about. I don’t care what race our President is, as long as he/she does a good job. Even if my guy/gal won, I wouldn’t have much interest in the goings-on pre-innauguration. I would rather watch the paint dry than watch the likes of Babs, Miss Crow, The Boss, Alec Baldwin, Michael Moore et al, party like it’s 1999.

I disagree 100% with this point
It’s great that the first half-african american is going to be president, but nothing to be too excited about.
Obama may be half African-American, but his skin color is still black, which was the main reason people of his color were discriminated against for far too long. The fact that a man with black skin got elected President of the United States is in fact a major historical moment, regardless if you agree with his politics.

Ok
I figure a lot of people will disagree with me, but from my perspective I look past the color of the person. And by making a big deal out of it, you are judging the person and the moment by his color. It is akin to how I feel about quotas. Let the person be judged on his or her merits. If after four/eight years Obama is a great President, then I will cheer him on like a drunk school-girl.

I agree with this to an extent as well.
While I do think it is a historic moment, it’s also good to try to get past skin color as well. And I have the same views regarding quotas, and hopefully Obama will do a good enough job that his skin color won’t matter to people.

I agree
I think it is a historic moment, but there sure is a lot of hype about it. I guess I just find it hard to get too excited about an inauguration, no matter who the president is going to be. Give me opening day of the baseball season any day. :)
