NLDS Game 3 Chat

Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals, Oct 10, 2009 3:07 PM PDT

Today's game will determine whether the next start for Chris Carpenter will be on three days rest or 179 days rest.

Vicente Padilla and Joel Pineiro have started against one another just one previous time in their career.  On April 20, 2006, Padilla allowed just one run over seven innings for the Rangers, while Pineiro allowed three runs in 5.1 innings for the Mariners.  Neither pitcher got a decision in the 4-3 Texas win.  Pineiro appeared as a reliever twice in games started by Padilla, and Padilla won both games.

Here are the lineups:

Dodgers      Cardinals
SS Furcal
2B Schumaker
CF Kemp RF Ludwick
RF Ethier
1B Pujols
LF Manny
LF Holliday
1B Loney CF Rasmus

Well, everyone has been very sweet.

And it’s funny, but after spending a season participating in game threads it just seems odd to watch a game without a laptop and an internet conversation about the action.

Not entirely sure.

He was responsible for the outfielders and they made some uncharacteristic gaffes, also responsible for the baserunners who did the same, but the hitting coach should have gone ahead of anyone else.

I’m sad to see him go, though – he was a funny guy and I think well liked. He’ll get another job soon enough. I think he’d make a good broadcaster.

Miguel Cabrera might be either crushed or relieved, though – hard to tell from the picture in this post. :)

That's funny

I was at a Tigers/Yankees game in 2006 and I remember Van Slyke humorously getting into it with a few Yankee fans. He did seem pretty funny.

Hey Eric,

do you think that if this goes to a game 5, Torre might consider pitching Kershaw for that game instead of Wolf? Only because maybe he knows that Clayton has the best stuff out of our starters and the fact that Randy struggled a bit in game 1. What do you think?

by desecrator09 on Oct 10, 2009 3:00 PM PDT reply actions

Still think he would start Wolf, but would have a quick hook if needed.

by Eric Stephen on Oct 10, 2009 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions

honestly

if it did go 5, the Dodgers wouldn’t care who started as much cause it’s our bullpen that carries us; we’d use them 3-9th if had to….must win at that pt.

Per Wikipedia

Kemp’s nickname is “The Bison.”6 During the second major league game of Kemp’s career, on May 29, 2006, he stole second base in the fourth inning, after which Atlanta Braves television announcer Don Sutton said he looked “like a big buffalo running around the bases.” The observation was appropriate due to Kemp’s imposing size and surprisingly fast footspeed. The nickname was modified to “The Bison,” by the commenter D4P on the popular Dodger blog, Dodger Thoughts7, as it is a more proper term for the North American mammal to which the moniker refers.

Based on what?

I’m very very low on the Grizzlies this year, which is pretty bad. Too many ballhogs, not enough ball. Thankfully, no one in Memphis is going to realize how much of a bad pick Thabeet was this year since he won’t even have to shoot the ball.
