NLCS Game 1 Chat

Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Dodgers, Oct 15, 2009 5:07 PM PDT

A good sign: Manny Ramirez is so locked in, he can control the baseball with his mind.

Mark J. Terrill - AP

A good sign: Manny Ramirez is so locked in, he can control the baseball with his mind.

The Dodgers and Phillies are set for the first NLCS rematch since 2005 (Astros/Cardinals).  Speaking of the Cardinals, I wrote a NLDS review for The Hardball Times, which can be read here, as well as an NLCS preview here.  I also answered some questions from Whole Camels over on The Good Phight.

Here are the lineups for Game 1:

Phillies      Dodgers
SS Rollins
SS Furcal
CF Victorino
RF Ethier
2B Utley LF Manny
1B Howard CF Kemp
RF Werth
3B Blake
LF Ibañez
1B Loney
3B Feliz
2B Belliard
C Ruiz C Martin
P Hamels
P Kershaw

Let me just say that I love Dodgers baseball. Plus I got the Postseason.tv package so I can finally watch the game with video.

Might as well post it here, too.

Phuck the Phillies. Go Dodgers!! Treat Howard like a nuclear weapon.

No reason to pitch around him

Howard should truly blossom as a NLCS strikeout artist this week.

Go Dodgers! Go Kershaw! :)

I hate this “let’s build playoff momentum by taking a break for several days” business. :(

I hope the league doesnt delay any of the games just cuz of the fucking rain

we’ve already had more than enough off days for a baseball postseason. Besides its just the friggin rain! lol. Football players go out there and play in friggin 20 degrees with snow storms! Now you know why baseball has that stereotype of players being pussies.

by desecrator09 on Oct 15, 2009 4:53 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Well, they're not going to delay 10 games because it's raining

Just one. Besides, football players wear a lot of pads and baseball players don’t even all wear cups.

by StolenMonkey86 on Oct 15, 2009 4:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

come on man

theres still ALOT more risk of injury playin fuckin football than baseball. Thats pretty obvious. And they dont need delay anymore games just cuz of a little rain. Suck it up and play some Major League playoff ball!

From the is Bill Plaschke paying attention department

via Twitter.

From the Dodgers, at 5:05:

“The Infield” just threw out the first pitch: Russell, Cey, Garvey and a ‘visiting’ Lopes

From Plaschke, seconds later

Three-fourths of great Dodger infield threw out first pitch — Ron Cey, Bill Russell, Steve Garvey…where was Davey Lopes?..

by Eric Stephen on Oct 15, 2009 5:08 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Full disclosure

I’m not watching on TV yet, so I have no idea what actually happened. Just thought the differing info was funny.

The infield.

Just threw out the first pitch:

Russell.

Cey.

Garvey.

And a ‘visiting’ Lopes.

Three-fourths of great Dodger infield threw out first pitch -

Ron Cey.

Bill Rusell.

Steve Garvey.

my mom's most hated baseball rule

Her logic is, that no one says when they are going to steal, the catcher doesn’t inform the batter what the pitcher is going to throw – if a batter is fooled by the pitcher, then he deserves to be out.

Deception is an inherent part of the game of baseball.

Fucking NICE.

And already one Philly bonehead baserunning play.

The good news is 3 of the Dodgers hit Hamels really well (Furcal – right to Ibanez though, Ethier and Kemp). When Hamels dominated the Dodgers no one was hitting him well at all. I’m optimistic.

It may not be entirely rational, but he falls into the category of “players I do not want on my team and if management gets stupid and picks them up anyway, I will cheer for him to get a series of minor injuries so he is never in the lineup and I can pretend he doesn’t exist.”

# jonahkeri Manny was jammed on that popup. That could have been a historic Double #Fisted.

# Jayson Starkjaysonst Manny is 0 for 2, but he’s made Hamels work. Saw 15 pitches in those 2 AB.

Oh damn

I remember arguing with friends before the season and they were telling me Park would be a really good 4th starter on the Phills, and I kept telling them he was at best a spot starter for the Dodgers and though was good, he would struggle in Philly. Lol, I’m glad I was right.
