I can think of another playoff team recently

Who had a solo shot from a left handed first baseman to take an early lead.

Our offseason is gonna be messy

If the McCourts can’t figure it out. If Jaime ends up as sole owner, will she make some weird changes? I guess she can’t be worse than her husband, or better for that matter.

Really

Padilla’s line 52 pitches, 39/13 strike/ball, 3 hits, 0 walks and 4 K.

That is pretty good.

Good God Ruiz owns us

Career Split against us
.378 .511 .622 1.132

Next closest is Arizona at a .891 OPS when looking at more then 10 at bats. So against us he’s 250 OPS better then against anyone else, and almost .500 points better then his norm.

20% is kind of pessimistic

not exactly of a fan of 1 in 5 odds. Still we only need to win two games in Philly. We did that once already this year, we can do it again. No need to ride the negative train until we have lost all four games.

in the 1996 WS

the yankees lost both games 1 and 2 to the Atlanta Braves at home
Torre managed that club….but they turned it around in Atlanta
taking all 3 games including a game 4 rally from a 6 run deficit
and they clinched it in game 6 in new york

i know anything is possible but id like to avoid this…

Because when I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of Romanticism....

by shaqfor3 on Oct 16, 2009 3:00 PM PDT reply actions

If we can't avoid it

I’m all for doing it that way. And the Yankee’s were facing some nasty pitching back then. They beat Glavine (Lee Clone), Neagle (AJ Happ anyone), and Smoltz.

Apparently there used to be a Padilla Flotilla in Philly

They were talking about it on the radio the other day – people even came with oars.

Padilla has been amazing

certainly doesn’t deserve to be losing right now

if jim thome doesnt do something impactful before the world series i say let pierre be the dh or pintch hitter of choice. i dont like his confidence or swing right now

by early818 on Oct 16, 2009 3:01 PM PDT reply actions

It's a tough call

Him getting more than one at bat per game could change everything, but the added defense JP in LF adds is very intriguing.

by Jacob Burch on Oct 16, 2009 3:02 PM PDT up reply actions

JP adds defense?

All MLB teams are equal but some MLB teams are more equal than others.

by Sordid on Oct 16, 2009 3:02 PM PDT up reply actions

his arm is still horrendous though

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Oct 16, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions

It's LF

Throwing isn’t exactly a big deal out there, and his range is a plus.

by Jacob Burch on Oct 16, 2009 3:04 PM PDT up reply actions

ya his defense is certainly better

but is it enough, this will be last world series speculation, but how about o dog back in the field and belliard to pinch hit

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Oct 16, 2009 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Plus Thome basically not being able to run the basepaths adds another element. Other possibility is Belliard DHing and Hudson at 2B.

by Preston on Oct 16, 2009 3:02 PM PDT up reply actions

lets not even look that far ahead

I havent seen the game until now but I heard Scully and he said Padilla was on his game along with Pedro.. I watched the last inning and the lack of plate discipline is disgusting.

by NotJoeTorre on Oct 16, 2009 3:01 PM PDT reply actions

Pedro's been painting it black all day

There was an adjustment midgame to swing at more pitches. They’re just not squaring them.

by Jacob Burch on Oct 16, 2009 3:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Come on Dodgers don't waste this Padilla start

May still be rusty. I don’t think coming back from injury only to play a few games, long break, play a few games, long break – has helped.

Dammit

What can we do to get Pedro out of this game? Absolutely nothing!?

by Nathan S. on Oct 16, 2009 3:09 PM PDT reply actions

some of this has got to be a hangover from last night. re really blew that game no question about it. we got 14 hits and gave them 4 wild pitches and 7 walks. plus our supposedly dominate bullpen looked terrible. losing game 1 at home really hurt their “swagger” as all the networks keep sayin

Given the way Pedro is pitching...

and the horror that is that bullpen. I just can’t see this. Particularly with the bottom of the Dodger order due up.

by the way the phillies winning this game 1-0 is not even in the top 50 most likely scores
