Kurodaless Division Champion Game Chat

Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers, Oct 2, 2009 7:10 PM PDT

Rockies vs Dodgers coverage

Rockies vs Dodgers preview

Purple Row

Joe Torre dropped a bomb on the media when he announced that last years playoff hero, Kuroda would miss the first round of the playoffs.  Then he announced that Vicente Padilla would start on Sunday instead of Chad Billingsley.  Who follows Wolf/Kershaw is unclear and Joe said it would depend on the opposition. Consider Sunday and tryout.

So this leaves tonights starter as our number one game starter for the playoffs. Very few people figured when Randy Wolf signed last spring that he would be our starting pitcher in the playoffs and that it would not be because of injuries but because of performance. Randy Wolf has given the Dodgers more then even the most optimistic Wolf supporter could have imagined.

Blake is back and batting sixth and this lineup looks to me like the playoff lineup. Hopefully Blake can bring some bang back into the lineup. With a day off and Chavez Ravine rekindling their spirits I expect the Dodgers to make the final two games of this series moot.

God bless Time Warner Manhattan

so I call today to order HBO. The guy says “I see you have the sports pack, for 10 cents more, you can get a couple more HD sports channels, including Game HD.” I say why wasn’t I told of this before? He says no clue, I say fine, I’ll take it.

So I look up Game HD – and the game is on! And Vinny to boot.

by oshea2002 on Oct 2, 2009 7:04 PM PDT reply actions

Sweet

I called DirecTV the other day to add the sports pack so I could watch college football. The woman just gave it to me for free, and then said, since you’ve had NFL Sunday ticket for a few years, I’ll upgrade you to the HD package on that for free.

It was awesome if and completely unexpected.

Even with Holliday gone, they are set with Hawpe / Fowler / CGonz in the outfield with Seth Smith being a good fourth guy. Two centerfielders playing CF/LF is good idea in Coors.

aka, he tends to do this, then go on a nice run of settling down.

This is the problem with finesse pitchers like Wolf

In the bigger games the Umps have a smaller zone and its tough when you dont have a power fastball that you can just pound in the zone. This is where we miss Billingsly not being the ace like he should be.

Back in 06 my HS football team got to play Canyon (lost 63-3, oh yeah), who ended up the top team in California that year, and I think top 5 in the Country that year. Hell yes! lol

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

I, by the way, played 0 snaps in the game for whatever reason, haha. But my consolation is that I talked to one of the trainers for most of the game and I had a huge crush on her at the time, so that was a plus.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 7:56 PM PDT up reply actions

What high school did you go to?

Canyon won the state championship that year beating “Northern Power” De La Salle.

by Michael White on Oct 2, 2009 7:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Royal High School. We played them in the first round of the playoffs, and we never stood a chance in the slightest, haha. I just remember teammates telling me how we were going to win…after we fell into a playoff spot because we finished 5-5 with 3 other teams and won a coin flip to make it into the playoffs.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 7:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Ha, we live in the same neighborhood.

Royal and Simi are both pretty poor this year. Moorpark and Westlake are the top teams in the Marmonte this year.

by Michael White on Oct 2, 2009 8:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh yeah, I live like 2 block down from Royal, like right before Fitzgerald. Somehow in my senior year I was 5 minutes away from school and I was late almost every day, hahah.

I haven’t heard anything about either school this year, but since I left Royal (5-5 then), they have somehow gotten even worse. I’m not quite sure how. The best year I can remember is when they had Danny Mosier as the running back back in 04 and they won Marmonte that year.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Also, I can’t remember Simi being any good in the last half decade. In my junior year (05), they started off 5-0 and then lost their last 5 games, it was quite hilarious.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I've heard their basketball teams have been pretty good the last few years

and their baseball teams have actually produced some major leaguers, so they’ve got to be pretty good (I mean Dream Weaver is out of Simi, what could be better than that??? lol).

I’m really excited that Matt McGill from Royal is in the Dodger’s system and has done really well so far.

I always used to use maxpreps.com for all of that stuff when i used to pay attention to local sports. I’m gonna check and see how Royal is doing so far, though I could walk a quarter of a mile and go to the game tonight and ask someone, haha.

If I guy is good enough to be in the postseason rotation (re: Bills), he should be able to pitch on the road. I’m not as concerned about that at all.

He’s our best pitcher with the most talent on the team, I say go for it. Originally I was voting for Wolf 1 and Kershaw 2, but I’d rather put the best foot forward and give them all we’ve got in game 1, whoever we may play.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:06 PM PDT up reply actions

by Eric Stephen on Oct 2, 2009 8:24 PM PDT reply actions

Haha

It certainly was. I can’t blame him for that one, it was a sick breaking pitch.

Come on Matty

Keep that average above .300, and get some RBI’s here too.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:25 PM PDT reply actions

I have forgotten what offense looks like.

by sumo390 on Oct 2, 2009 8:25 PM PDT reply actions

That inning was pretty much all Jimenez…both ways

by Eric Stephen on Oct 2, 2009 8:27 PM PDT reply actions

Bases loaded 1 out and we score on a passed ball and only once.

Story of the last month for this team.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:27 PM PDT reply actions

More like the last week.

In the last month, the Dodgers are pretty much right at their season average for runs

by Eric Stephen on Oct 2, 2009 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions

From what I’ve seen it’s like only Furcal, Loney, somewhat Manny, Blake, and Belliard are the only one’s who’ve done anything offensively in September. Ethier, Kemp, Hudson, Martin have been pretty terrible in September :(

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:31 PM PDT up reply actions

only 1 hit so far...ugh

Because when I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of Romanticism....

by shaqfor3 on Oct 2, 2009 8:27 PM PDT reply actions

What a dissapointing inning.....

a gift run is all we can get with the bags loaded and 1 out. And the best of the order up

by desecrator09 on Oct 2, 2009 8:27 PM PDT reply actions

Okay…playing like shit and only down 2-1. I think we’re in good shape here.

Who’s with me????

by KellyStephen on Oct 2, 2009 8:27 PM PDT reply actions

I'll sign up for that

It could probably be worse than it is right now.

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions

That's been the story though

The pitching usually has 1 bad inning, and is great otherwise (and great anyway, lol), and get’s little run support.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:29 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm there

as long as we agree on the inevitable turn-around

by K3vo on Oct 2, 2009 8:29 PM PDT up reply actions

where is the dodger offense?

by shaqfor3 on Oct 2, 2009 8:27 PM PDT reply actions

Have to say

after curve, slider, curve. That fastball coming at 97 has to be really tough to lay off of.

Connie Mack would be 2, John Mcgraw would be 3, and Im not sure if they said 4 besides Lasorda or 4 in all. I’m probly missing someone.
