Bobby Cox!

For some reason I was only thinking of the years they won their division in a row (14 plus the few years since then).

by Phil Gurnee on Oct 2, 2009 8:41 PM PDT reply actions

How many pitchers can throw it up there at 98-100 that often, though?

Besides, I’ll take Kershaw with his great movement and mid 90s fastball any day over Jimenez.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Matt Cain can throw close to 100, can’t he? It’s just a straight fastball with no movement.

Also Burnett can throw high 90s, and there is a list on the front page of Fangraphs.com with the average fastball speeds, i haven’t checked recently though.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 8:45 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s weird to see Edwin Jackson as one of the top flame throwers in baseball, because he’s not really a strikeout pitcher. Just odd.

by Eric Stephen on Oct 2, 2009 9:03 PM PDT reply actions

Most of his value comes from walks, and with the offense being how it has been, the walks haven’t been worth that much.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 9:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Again, offense scoring 4.89 runs per game in that period…pretty much the same as all year (in fact, slightly higher)

by Eric Stephen on Oct 2, 2009 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions

How many of those games are of the blowout variety?

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions

roughly same percentage of games over 7 runs (18.5%, 5 of 28 games) as entire season (17.6%, 28 of 159 g)

by Eric Stephen on Oct 2, 2009 9:10 PM PDT up reply actions

8 games in September the Dodgers scored 7 runs or more. (74 runs)
2 games with 6 runs scored (12 runs)
3 games with 5 runs scored (15 runs)
4 games with 4 runs scored (16 runs)
3 games with 2-3 runs scored (8 runs)
6 games 1 or less runs scored (4 runs)

Im going to check the wins and losses for all of those now. Im bored, right now, lol.

Honestly i know you don’t win many of those games, but not even one when the Dodgers pitching has been good enough to be able to win games like that? The last week has just been depressing.

Not so cheap anymore

but I still like him to break out in 2010 but if the new Padre GM would rather have Loney and give us Adrian to make sure relations between us start our smooth, I’d give in for the sake of getting along with our neighbors.

by oshea2002 on Oct 2, 2009 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions

There is no good free agent 1b that would be a suitable replacement for Loney. The only hope we’d have is to completely overpay for Fielder, but I don’t think he would mesh well here, especially after storming the locker room earlier in the season.

by Ivdown on Oct 2, 2009 9:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, it'd probably have to be via trade

If Martin and Furcal turn things around, the offense could be better this year. But on the whole – if it’s just let Hudson walk and do nothing, I’m a bit concerned on the O next year.

That said – the staff could be really good next year, with offense becoming less of a need.

this, exactly

the fact that everyone freaks out at everything and misses the big picture drives me up the wall.

Before we clinched yesterday, everyone on Purple Row was convinced we were gonna choke, we sucked, the team was a disappointment, and many of us were screaming “WE ARE LEADING THE WILD CARD. QUIT CRYING. GIVE SOME CREDIT FOR WHAT WE’VE DONE.”

The Dodgers are a damn good ballclub. Matt Kemp is young and I’d argue a top-10 (if not more exclusive) player in the NL, and the young corps is gonna keep you guys competitive for many years.

I think K3vo is a Dodgers fan.

But to answer the question, yes, there was a fan post after a game with a really bad call against us. Most people didn’t buy it, and the whole thing quickly died anyway. And more people thought it was umpires holding a grudge after a scrum we had with a crew a few weeks ago. But really, I think most posters didn’t buy any of it.

You need to STFU

there is a difference between having faith in your team and being delusional. They look defeated. I would be greatly surprised if the Dodgers were not worse then the 25th worse offense in the last week, and at the WORST POSSIBLE TIME, reguardless of the regular season meaning nothing to the playoffs in all reality.

All of this shit is just a major back breaker, it’s disheartening.

But I really am still trying to keep my faith in the Dodgers. I am dying for them to do something to get out of this funk. All we need is one win in the next 3 regular season games (tonight included, obviously), and we can do that, it really shouldn’t be a problem, but the way they are looking they might not do it. Even so, they’ll still be in the playoffs and i still think they are the best team in the NL!
