If we’ve learned one thing the 2nd half of the season and even in these playoffs, it’s that we can’t expect Manny to carry us to a W.S. title. We are going to have to improve in other areas and hope that people like Billingsley regress back to their previous talent level.

by SeanMillerSavior on Oct 21, 2009 7:21 PM PDT reply actions
ALL the umps suck this postseason.
I mean, if they can miss two Yankees being out because they were both tagged when NEITHER was standing on the base, how can they possibly be expected to call fair balls fair, notice when someone is actually hit by a pitch, and call a strike a strike just because the catcher might be sitting in a different position?
Just horrible. And baseball can’t be happy that the excretory officiating is one of the biggest stories of the playoffs, either – but that’s just tough.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
Let's not forget there were major blown calls that went against the Twins, Rockies, and the Red Sox
Though in the case of the Twins, I don’t feel sorry for them because they got all the breaks to get into the postseason. And I don’t feel sorry for the Red Sox because I don’t like them. I felt bad for the Rockies, though.

really hard to win games
when you have only 4 balls to work with and you have to throw 4 sometimes 5 strikes to strike a batter out…
Really this is what the difference in the series was and i am very disappointed that in my first full season of watching baseball, the dodgers season had to end because of horrible ball strike calls and Horrible horrible home field advantage calls…
Phillies had their bad calls too
We got out played
by PHAT JULIO on Oct 21, 2009 7:53 PM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
hard to blame the umpiring for a series loss. The calls were consistently bad on both sides. However, when the strike zone isn’t consistent, the Phillies have the power up and down the lineup to take advantage of pitches in the middle of the zone. The Dodgers power has shown up with the bases empty or not at all.
I kept telling people that if we got past the Cardinals, the Phillies didn't scare me that much
I am a moron

Because when I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of Romanticism....
I thought the Cardinals series was going to be brutal
but I thought Philly pitching and all the lefty/lefty matchups was going to work in our favor
I also think I dramatically underestimated the Phillies hitting
Their splits against lefties were pretty goos all year
At this point I'd settle for a 6 game series
And go out feeling like the Dodgers made it further this year than last…

Aww, last time I'll see this black taco commercial
I don’t think I’ve seen it anywehre else but TBS.
It's hard to go back and see what the cause is here
Is it Dodgers meltdown or a Phillies explosion? Or is it somewhere in between?
dodgers meltdown
and phils explosion combined with the dodgers having to throw pitches down the middle cause nothing on the corners is a strike
The thought just occured to me...I'm gonna end up rooting for the Phillies several times next year
They’re playing every other team in the AL Central (I think) in Interleague play. We don’t face them, though, thank God.
what is the name of the announcer
Who has the annoyingest voice in the history of broadcasting…
Seriously how do they hire this man?? isnt sound of voice something they take into consideration when hiring???
TBS must be deaf or something
Because when I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of Romanticism....
Really?
Granted, the Tigers only had four, which isn’t a really high number either (Verlander had three; Jackson had one).

Well gents (and ladies)
Here’s our last chance. Even though I lurked most of the season, it was fun to be a part of it. We had a great first half and a not-so great (sometimes even embarrassing) second half, but we made it. Here we are about to face reality. It’ll hurt for a few days but that feeling will fade and all we will be left with are the memories and hope for a better next year. Go dodgers!
I'm over the pain since the Game 4 loss
The core of this team will be back next year and hopefully Kershaw, Bilingsley will make for a pretty good set of anchors in the starting rotation
the same person
who told the umps to call horrible calls for the dodgers, probably decides
What are the chances of us getting Halladay during the Winter?
Seriously, I feel like we don’t really need him. Buuuuut, I feel the Dodgers will do whatever it takes.
I know everyone says you don't need him
but where else do we improve? We’re probably stuck with Manny in LF, and short of finding an upgrade at 1B, the offense is staying the same.
You don't need to improve when you win 95 games
The playoffs are a crapshoot. Seriously, you build teams to get to the playoffs

I agree with that, and I don't.
I agree, baseball is different then hoops. In the NBA, if someone kicks your ass in consecutive playoff series’, you either get better or lose again. I know baseball is different. But I still think this team can get better, especially the rotation.
How do you figure?
Toronto is stupid, they don’t believe in trading within the division.

Some guys we could take a flier on
Harden? Hudson?
whenever Lidge doesn't blow a game
…theres plenty of other things he is surely blowing…
BOOM! CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE JOKE.
One out
It’s been fun, guys. It was a really fun year regardless of the outcome. We had a great team. Just ran into a better team.
I'm sorry, but the Dodgers are definitely better than the Phillies
As the cliche goes, it’s not who you play, it’s when you play them. The ‘06 Tigers were a much better team than the ’06 Cardinals, and yet when it came time for the WS, they were hot and we weren’t.

Belliard has been much more patient lately, but it hasn't done much for him anyway

As a new guy around here
Thanks for all the hard work you guys at TBLA put in. Love the sight and I look forward to hanging around next year, all the way through the World Series.
Another year under the belts of this young core
Infield is pretty locked still, the question mark is what do the Dodgers do at 2nd, I wouldn’t mind trying Blake DeWitt
yweah
the guy who hit .250 in one of the best hitting envirements in the minors… alright
thanks for your input
much appreciated!

I'm not too disappointed
I actually never thought it was our year through the year. Would’ve loved it to be, but just didn’t think it was going to be. Wasn’t going to let that keep me from loving every second and hoping against everything they’d win it.
But this team’s just getting started. We’ve got one hell of a core in place to be contenders for a long time. Can’t wait to see what kind of stuff Kershaw brings next year.
Now I just have to wait for the Rams to finally win. I phuckin’ hate the phillies. I hope the AL whoops on them. Arrrgggghhh!!!!

Sorry, guys. I feel your pain.
I had a really good time here on TBLA these past couple weeks. You Dodger fans are cool. Maybe next year, if the Tigers are off or the games are at completely different times, I’ll join you for a game or two, if you’ll have me. And of course our teams will see each other in Interleague play. In the meantime, go Yankees/Angels! Beat the Phillies!
Here’s hoping for a Tigers-Dodgers World Series in 2010! :-p
