Andrew Lambo

Same age as EM this year, and a year younger than AM. People — even scouts, apparently — are penalizing Lambo for numbers put up two levels higher than any level EM or AM played at this year. If he had just played one level higher — the Cal League, a league the Dodgers skipped him past entirely — Lambo’s numbers likely would have been great.

by CanuckDodger on Oct 28, 2009 3:14 PM PDT reply actions

Myself

while I was unimpressed with Lambo’s year I do realize he was skipped but then again if he’s going to be an elite offensive LF I think he needed to hit like one. If Lambo ends up better then a fourth outfielder but no better then a Hermida I don’t see him ranking higher then the others on this list. The only way to me Lambo is better then Martin or Miller is if I already think he’s going to be an offensive asset, and I have my doubts. I hope he does kick it up a notch but i’d love the Lambo name to be playing LF for the Dodgers. I’ve got a great marketing plan with the Dodgers to convert the LF pavilion into Lambo Field.

Plus I was simply very impressed with Aaron Miller.

My real vote went to

Trayvon Robinson for this spot, but he was pulled for the dead heat.

"Seasonal Age"

A ballplayers official age is whatever his age is on July 1 of a season. Lambo has a birthday after July 1, Martin has a birthday before July 1. This was Lambo’s age 20 season, although it was an “old 20”. This was also Martin’s age 20 season, although it was a “young 20.”

by CanuckDodger on Oct 28, 2009 4:13 PM PDT up reply actions

An Elite LF

Since the average LF hits a ton, Lambo just being average for that position while getting paid pre-free agency money will be valuable. I think Lambo in future will hit better than Ethier, and even if he is only turns out “as good” as Ethier is now, that’s fine. I like Lambo’s chance of reaching that ceiling better than I like Martin’s chance of being an ace in the majors.

by CanuckDodger on Oct 28, 2009 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Just to clarify

because some may just take your word but Ethan Martin is 10 months younger then Lambo so I’d question the same age comment.

I believe he's referring to 07/01/09 cutoff

Since Martin’s b-day falls before that date, last year was considered his age 20 season. Same as Lambo.

by silverwidow on Oct 28, 2009 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions

I know but many people don't

so I just wanted to clarify so that everyone understands the Martin is really 10 months younger then Lambo.

Andrew Lambo: 3

Plus, how do you ignore, 32.9 K/PA. That’s 98.7 strikes/PA, he must be a workhorse.

EM appears to have won (in the previous poll), or atleast is ahead in the vote at the time that I am making this vote. Why the runoff?

because Lindblom and Robinson had

siphoned off around 20 votes and given how close it was I decided to only let TBLA members decide the outcome. This is their poll after all not just some johnny come lately from Yahoo who decides to vote but never register.

He has faith in bills and a fan of his and sees him as a future ace.
Won’t trade him. May pick up a pitcher in the off season.

Wow

did a caller ask about Withrow?

I’m surprised that he would come into the conversation….

That’s a huge vote of confidence, IMO, for the GM to give a prospect an endorsement like that on the radio.

by Michael White on Oct 28, 2009 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe Jon Ireland brought up Withrow :)

by Eric Stephen on Oct 28, 2009 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions

He wasn’t talking about withrow specifically, bit the ‘prospect who is able to make it real big as a pitcher’ kind of speaks volume in Withrow.

by PHAT JULIO on Oct 28, 2009 3:59 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Dang, I wish he was more specific. Who knows, maybe he’s talking about EM.

by silverwidow on Oct 28, 2009 4:02 PM PDT up reply actions

also from that interview

He offered a lot for cliff lee, “a big time pitcher”(I think withrow), and a guy who can be one of thebest
position players in the game"(gordon).

Indians are going to rue the day they didn't take the Dodgers offer

but as a Dodger fan how crazy would it have been to watch an AL all-star game in 2012 with Santan/Withrow/Gordon as Indians?

Which comment is more ballsy?

That DeAndre Jordan might be the best 2nd round pick of the 21st century, or that Dee Gordon will be an all-star in 2012? :)

by Eric Stephen on Oct 28, 2009 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions

deandre jordan

cause there are so many great 21st century 2nd rounds picks

by matthewmafa on Oct 28, 2009 4:19 PM PDT up reply actions

I am getting a bit hyperbolic

this week aren’t I. Anyway I still believe DeAndre Jordan is just going to keep getting better and will be the Clipper answer to Bynum by 2011. Many people forget he was being talked about as a lottery pick just weeks before the draft strictly based on his size and athletism.

Gordon timeline – 2010 – A+/AA
                              - 2011 – AA/AAA/Majors
                              - 2012 – Starting SS, ROY, All-Star (Injury Replacement for Reyes) , MVP (13th Place) Steals 59 bases, hits 303.

From 2012 – 2015 the Gordons will lead the Dodgers to the World Series and the Clippers to the World ChampionShip. I’ll be long gone from TBLA by then so when it happens people will look back at this post and say, that dude was the ……whatever word they using to describe crazy bastard.

His tone of voice was a bit more relieving. In that the indians didn’t accept the last minute offer.

Baron Davis just called

all Clipper fans. The marketing plan picked the wrong guy to hang their hat on. If I see another interview with Davis wearing a bow, a silly sweater, and a pimp hat, he’s going to becomme Dweeby Davis to me.

My vote goes to Lambo

and has gone to Lambo for the past few polls

by Brandon Lennox on Oct 28, 2009 4:30 PM PDT reply actions

Anyway,

about my second base is becoming an offensive position comment.

Well, if you look at the wOBA numbers for the leaders, there is a significant difference.

At short, there’s Hanley/Tulo/Jeter and then there’s a huge drop of like 40 points in wOBA to the next class, which is full of high average, speedier, 5-15 hr types with on base percentages.

My point is that a realistic projection would have DeJesus around maybe a .325-.330 wOBA mark. Fringe average for all major leagues. An optimistic one would put him around the Yunel Escobar .350-.360 wOBA range. And since prospects bomb more often than not, I went with the realism. Point being, if he put up the realistic number, he would still be around a top 10 offensive shortstop.

On the other hand, while second base has that same drop off (Utley/Zobrist/Cano/Kinsler or whatever), they have a long list of guys in that Yunel Escobar range. The same offensive production would put him well out of the top 10 and more into the barely top 20 range, which is not what I want.

Therefore, my conclusion was that realism would dictate that he’s fringe average at short with the potential to be in that upper Yunel Escobar offensive range of value. However, if he were to move to second base, that realistic projection would put him top 20 and he would have to hit in that Yunel Escobar range just to be top 10. Hence, I would not be as thrilled with him at second if he projected to be close to a bottom of the barrel type player.

Personally, i’m hoping both Gordon and DeJesus end up somewhere between .330-.350 wOBA range and we have two cheap solidly above average options for 6 years.

Anybody else find this McCourt situation particularly intriguing.

I usually ignore all tabloidy stuff, so when there’s something that I have particular interest in I can’t get enough.

The last thing I followed this close was the McNair investigation.

I don't particularly

I’m interested inasmuch as I want to know how it will affect my favortie team. But if there was a remote control whereby I could fast-forward to the end I definitely would. The details of their personal lives are not particularly interesting for me.
