"Despite the fact everyone knows the credit markets are challenging, we're fully expecting to move forward with the project," [Dodgers VP Josh] Rawitch said. The Dodgers have been working with city leaders to review and approve the project, which will help determine when the club can break ground. Finishing all three phases by 2012 is unrealistic at this time, Rawitch told SBD.
Dodger Stadium renovation plans have been put on hold, per SportsBusiness Daily.

Josh is a decent guy
Eric, myself, and a number of other posters here have met him at various events.
Coming up with pleasant spin for an unpleasant reality is what he does. It’s what he’s paid for.
Witty .sig goes here.

Josh is a very nice guy in the midst of a very, very difficult situation. A situation he did not hire into, but came rushing in, seemingly “out of left field.”
The great way he’s handling all of this will look fantstic on his resume.

Imagining people coming to Dodgers Stadium in the middle of Dec to go to the mall built there in 2015 is going to be a bit weird. :)
The people that are going to benefit from it are the Chinatown, Echo Park, and East L.A. communities. The closet malls for them I think is Glendale.

But once they put the condos up on the south side of the parking lot, overlooking the city, the mall will draw even more people.

Top of the Park, a separate outdoor plaza with views to the city skyline, Santa Monica Bay and two mountain ranges.
Sounds like the area you mention.
I was given to understand that it would take major legal maneuvering among many parties to allow McCourt to develop anything residential on the DS property, and that most consider it insurmountable.

If people will go to CityWalk and LA Live, they might go to DS.
In fact LA Live would be major competition for the McCourt idea, wouldn’t it?

I think there are tons of empty luxury downtown condominiums
But these would be in a better location because of the view. They would have to be accessible from outside of the stadium, which would men a separate road in, which is pretty unlikely considering the only area that wouldn’t be jam-packed with Dodger fans would be from the 110 side where the terrain so steep, otherwise no one would want to live their because of the legendary bad traffic before/after games.
The key to getting city approval would be though “mixed use” retail and living spaces mixed and even offices. A big housing development would never fly. It would take too big a bribe, and we all know how cheap the Mccourts are.

Given that most politicians are lawyers
I think the McCourt lawyer budget is already spoken for.

No mention of the concessions/restrooms renovations that was supposed to be for the whole stadium
but only the Field level got done? Loge was supposed to be last off-season….

There is a slight chance it was mentioned in the Sports Business Daily article (link within the link) but I don’t have a subscription to see the full article.
