FYI, in case I am away for a minute, new game threads are scheduled to publish at:
4pm
4:45pm
5:30pm
Most likely I will be around anyway, but in case I am not look for a new thread at those times.
So what happened to the blue rally towels?
All I saw was a sea of white.
OK
Game face time, need some serious commenting to hit 3,000 posts today.
Offense
Going to break out the big boy bats to support he kid. 1.5 runs of support per start is just not cool.
I'm still very tired
Running on three and a half hours from last night’s game, could drop off into z’s at any moment. I would love to dream of K’s, but hopefully I don’t dream them.
Over/Under for Kershaw K's
is currently at 27. That is all
My fist instinct
Is to push, but because of the run support Kershaw gets, it’s possible we’re looking at a 0-0 extra innings affair, so I’m tempted to take the over.
Don't forget the number of swinging strike outs where Russel Martin allows the runner to advance on a passed ball

since you all were so nice yesterday
I’m back for game two. Plus to cheer on Kershaw. :)
(Actually putting on my lucky Loons cap right now. It helped him before, so why not?)

Pre-game Loons question
what are your thoughts on Kyle Russel?
by Michael White on Oct 8, 2009 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions
I like him a lot.
Purely subjectively – I’m not a stats-sy person, but he is very tall and rangy and gets to a lot of balls in right field that someone who didn’t run as well wouldn’t get to. Good arm. Capable of stealing bases – pretty good judgement as to when to go and when not too, and also a very smart base runner. I’m usually surprised when he strikes out because he doesn’t take a lot of crazy swings at bad pitches, so it doesn’t seem like he should ever really miss the ball completely.
He also has a very calm demeanor, and when the players would run out to their positions with little kids before the game he would always bend over (WAY over) to talk to the little kid and give a high-five. Really, really nice kid. Batting music was the theme song from “The Dukes of Hazard.” :)

Thanks for the insight
I’m interested to see how he develops moving forward….
by Michael White on Oct 8, 2009 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions
I hope he makes it.
I know the odds are against every minor league player just from a numbers standpoint, but he’s such a good guy. I always root for the good people. The world has too few of them.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
Understood.
People are concerned with the fact that he struck out a ton in the MWL while being 23 years old. Others love his raw power. I think he’ll skip A+ and head right to AA to see if he can hack it against more polished pitchers.
by Michael White on Oct 8, 2009 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions
His power is amazing.
And he doesn’t look like he should hit that hard because he isn’t a big, muscular guy. A slender build, but not slight – just a very easy swing and the ball jumps off of it more quickly than you might expect.

It worked out ok for me
On the east coast. Go to bed at 1:30, wake up at 7, go to work, get home at 10 til 6, come home, relax, watch the Dodgers.

Just about the exact same day
Except I got home about ten till five, and had an hour to unwind before taking in Game 2.
Nice to know that in a pinch
I can still run on only four hours sleep. Even though my college years were a couple decades ago. :)

Different game plan today?
Dodger hitters taking a lot of strikes.
wainright throwing 96

fuck u matt holliday

also
he gives up home runs at a higher rate in the day time then in the nighttime… that would not have been a homer in the night time
and only Brox's 3 ER last night
hopefully this one proves meaningless too

casey bobbled a bare handed attempt
on a roller down the line
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
oh well, i guess its gonna be one of those innings
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
It seems the Cardinals get a lot of breaks like bloops and slow rollers down the line
against the Dodgers. I suppose the Dodgers got those last night too, but it would be nice to see some of those for the Dodgers today. Let’s root for some nice breaks like that today.
strike him out plz

You don’t hold pitchers when playing in elimination games
by Michael White on Oct 8, 2009 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions
I'd just like to get past the Cardinals
this is going to be a tough series, everyone is going to have to pitch in.
Clayton's got this shit on LOCKDOWN!
Sure, the lock may be a little loose, but you get the idea.
hollidays home run
would it have been a homer in the nighttime?
and do you think clayton tipped the pitch??
How's Kershaw's command?
I’m following online, and not Game Day which seems to not work well for me.
WHAMMY!
just stupid bloop hits and 1 bad pitch
Because when I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of Romanticism....
i know we have another 7 innings to go
but will the dodgers EVER score for Clayton Kershaw????
imagine how good a pitcher he would be if he ever had a lead
When you're good
They always pit you against the best. Which again is why (altogether now) “A pitcher’s win record is a meaningless stat!”
WHAMMY!
So its not going to be a long one
Like last night
C’mon boys, time to wake those bats up, at least stretch the innings so we have a chance to get to the bullpen.

So Wainright is pitching a NO-HITTER? Wow! I’d love to see a NO-HITTER in the playoffs. With the stuff he has, he might even pitch a PERFECT GAME.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
i noticed in the last 2 starts that Kershaw has a slight problem throwing intentional balls
I'm nobody's fool, least of all yours
Ballsy considering the guy just hit a home run
and the other guy is in the biggest slump of his career
I’ve only seen the end of 2 and this inning..Kershaw sems to be up on a lot of pitches. Is that what you guys are seeing?
yessss
but kershaws pitch counts high
we need some 1-2-3 innings
Because when I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of Romanticism....
if we lose this game
we’re in deep shit heading into St. Louis
Not as bad as if we had lost last night
Plus if we win only 1 there, we can clinch at home. More free champagne for the fans!!!
WHAMMY!
true....
but can we win in St. Louis where we almost never do??
Going into yesterday we never beat Carpenter either

I just dont know if we can win in St. Louis
but we’ll see. This team is resiliant so I wouldnt be surprised
Wainwright is sailing through the lineup right now.
It will be a long day batting if it stays like that. We need a couple of breaks.
yeah we have good hitters
but everybody needs breaks in the playoffs, even the Yankees.

ya if kershaw can relax
im hoping the second time through we might get a little more wood on wainwright

The suckiness of living on the East Coast
Among other things, having primetime run over by sports, and vice versa!
WHAMMY!
That breaking ball just has us befuddled
Interestingly, last night we didnt have alot of trouble with Carp’s breaking ball.
Wainwrite
Clay has to hang in—it is only one run right now.
This is where a Dodger player is going to have to make a heroic effort to get us into this game, or at least begin to rough up WW a bit.
a little sharper???
more like a lot sharper….

95% of my comments are not pessimistic. Go back and read my comments from yesterday and they were pretty much all positive
well just one comment okay...
but to say 95% of them just isnt true.
its cool
I guess that comment was wrong but from the camera angle i saw, he got a slow jump on the ball and then started sprinting. And i didnt call Kemp lazy as in, he personally was lazy. I meant that was a lazy play but maybe not
I don't think
St.Loo really knows what they are up against if Clay gets going!

It really looks like he might have lost his play-off magic. We can do it without him, but he always made it so easy.

Should we try to go to the game next Fri and blow off golf w/the uncles? Or play in the morning and then go?
Manny has something in him still.
If you notice, the Dodgers have hit a lot of rocket shots to the right side. that is like his second shot to the right side that has been caught. Later this game. POW!
