I am an advocate of 2-game leads in a playoff series

by Eric Stephen on Oct 8, 2009 2:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Offense

Going to break out the big boy bats to support he kid. 1.5 runs of support per start is just not cool.

by K3vo on Oct 8, 2009 2:57 PM PDT reply actions

I'm still very tired

Running on three and a half hours from last night’s game, could drop off into z’s at any moment. I would love to dream of K’s, but hopefully I don’t dream them.

by Nathan S. on Oct 8, 2009 3:00 PM PDT reply actions

Over/Under for Kershaw K's

is currently at 27. That is all

by K3vo on Oct 8, 2009 3:02 PM PDT reply actions

My fist instinct

Is to push, but because of the run support Kershaw gets, it’s possible we’re looking at a 0-0 extra innings affair, so I’m tempted to take the over.

by Nathan S. on Oct 8, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Over is in trouble already!

since you all were so nice yesterday

I’m back for game two. Plus to cheer on Kershaw. :)

Pre-game Loons question

what are your thoughts on Kyle Russel?

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2009 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions

I like him a lot.

Purely subjectively – I’m not a stats-sy person, but he is very tall and rangy and gets to a lot of balls in right field that someone who didn’t run as well wouldn’t get to. Good arm. Capable of stealing bases – pretty good judgement as to when to go and when not too, and also a very smart base runner. I’m usually surprised when he strikes out because he doesn’t take a lot of crazy swings at bad pitches, so it doesn’t seem like he should ever really miss the ball completely.

He also has a very calm demeanor, and when the players would run out to their positions with little kids before the game he would always bend over (WAY over) to talk to the little kid and give a high-five. Really, really nice kid. Batting music was the theme song from “The Dukes of Hazard.” :)

Thanks for the insight

I’m interested to see how he develops moving forward….

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2009 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions

I hope he makes it.

I know the odds are against every minor league player just from a numbers standpoint, but he’s such a good guy. I always root for the good people. The world has too few of them.

"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero

by Baroque on Oct 8, 2009 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Understood.

People are concerned with the fact that he struck out a ton in the MWL while being 23 years old. Others love his raw power. I think he’ll skip A+ and head right to AA to see if he can hack it against more polished pitchers.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2009 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions

His power is amazing.

And he doesn’t look like he should hit that hard because he isn’t a big, muscular guy. A slender build, but not slight – just a very easy swing and the ball jumps off of it more quickly than you might expect.
