Best game I ever attended, by far

We had great seats, Field Baseline, before the game Clayton warmed up right in front of us, Dscf1547_medium

This game was epic, Wainwright pitched awesome, to be matched by our Cy Young Winner in waiting (it may take a few years but mark my words Kershaw wins at least one maybe more). Then the 9th inning happened. Dscf1563_medium Dscf1566_medium

Awesome

I’m sure you’re son will never forget that game.

Glad you shared that with us.

It was a great time

before the 9th happened I am not sure what was bigger for my son, Clayton throwing right in front of us, he throws really hard, compared to what he sees in HS and travelball. Or possibly Slash playing the anthem and GBA. But even those were topped by the drama and outcome of the Ninth inning on the 8th of October 2009.

by MammothDodger on Oct 9, 2009 11:32 AM PDT reply actions

Clayton does throw very hard. Fangraphs ranks his as having the 2nd fastest velocity for LHP amongst starters. Only Sabathia throws harder.

BTW, it looks like you had a great view of the Holliday miscue.

yep

I am not used to sitting that close to the field, a guy a couple seats away kept trying to get Matt’s attention, nothing vulgar, just screaming at him, it really made the ninth inning miscue seem even better.

That's awesome

That fan probably felt like he won the game for the Dodgers.

I guess that play showed that there could be concrete reasons why home field advantage could be real. Its got to be a lot harder to keep your concentration with a 100 guys yelling at you.

As soon as I can get it from my son's phone

I will upload a video of Clayton stretching it out throwing from deep center to Asmus at the baseline, that was a sight to see.

I just enjoyed watching Clayton warming up

this video clip really does not to justice to how far and hard he is throwing

Sweet shots, must’ve been awesome to be there.

You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.

From the camera you can see the contrast

between the light on the field (darker) and the sky (much much brighter). See first photo of K-Shaw warming up as comparison.

If he was looking at the ball go off the bat (with the seats in the background) and then up (with the sky in the background), it would take a while for his pupils to adjust, adding to the difficulty of the play. He might of just lost it when that happened and never recovered. Awesome pics.

by Dodger Dude on Oct 9, 2009 3:31 PM PDT reply actions

you may have a point

although I am not sure that the ball got up enough to get into the sky. It looked to me, much as it does on the head on replay, that he lost it for a moment while trying to decide to catch it glove up or glove down. it may also be that the light bank was right there, take a look at the lights in that shot amazing how bright they are and the ball may have got that far up. like was said elsewhere I don’t buy the towel spinning theory, beside the towels are blue on one side and really there were not that many waiving at that point in time, before he dropped it the whole stadium had a resigned to the loss feel. the emotions on that play were huge at first I thought it would drop in then I was sure that Holliday had it then he kind of buckled at the waist and the ball squirted out, I was lucky on the picture, although you can not see the ball, the timing was pure luck, using a point and shoot held in one hand above my head to take the pic while watching it unfold in front of me.

I was at both the 4+1 and the Finley Slam

and each time thought it couldn’t possibly get more incredible. This one topped them both. I was really pleased to hear that stadium and see how many stuck it out into the bottom of the ninth. Dodger fans get a pretty bad rap, sometimes deserved, but games like last night’s should go along way in showing that we aren’t the fairweather, come-late, leave early people the media paints us as. Good job LA. Stick around, we should have a few more exciting years left in us.

Great shots; glad you got down for the games

Wish I had remembered to bring my camera. Some pics would have really helped my writeup.
