Could the Dodgers Make a Run at Brandon Phillips?
An intriguing possibility, considering we're unlikely to retain Hudson and Phillips is an upgrade over Belliard (since I doubt he repeats last September over a full year). We have a SS (DeJesus) and a catcher (May) that fit the Reds' needs.

i would do that trade in a heartbeat...
light hitting at best average shortstop which we have a lot of depth in…
and a catcher with HUGE defensive question marks for Brandon Phillips… a great 2nd basemen 20 homers 20 steals funny guy..

Hudson is under contract for $6.75 million in 2010, $11m in 2011, and a $1m buyout of his $12m option in 2012. If the Dodgers aren’t willing to accept the risk of perhaps paying $7-8m for one year of Hudson (should he accept arb), there is no way they trade for Phillips and his contract, especially given the cost in players.

When you say Hudson is under contract
you mean Phillips right?
I think there’s just a lot more upside to the younger Phillips, which is why I would take that over Hudson. He doesn’t have an injury history, he’s right in his prime, and not only does he put up 20/20 every year but he plays gold glove defense too. Sure, I wouldn’t trade too much for him, but for the right deal I would hope that the Dodgers brass would accept that kind of money for a legit all star.
Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?
