Disenchanted Blue Jays Fan Looking For A New Team
I'm a disenchanted Toronto Blue Jays Fan, looking for a new team. Ownership decisions and a general aimlessness in the direction of the team has caused me to consider abandoning the Jays after 25 years of cheering for them.
My search has narrowed to the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and your Los Angeles Dodgers.
I am looking for a MLB team that has ownership committed to winning, a group of players worth cheering for, and a reasonable shot at competing for the playoffs sometime in the next 10 years.
Convince me (with defensible reasons) why I should join you. Go!

1. In the NLCS the last two years, with a young, cost-controlled core
2. More likely to land Roy Halladay than your other three choices. (Detroit has nothing to offer, St. Louis just traded their best prospect this past season to the A’s for Holliday, not the Angels style.)
3. Ownership committed to winning – oh, wait. Who’s the owner again? Who will the owner be after the divorce?
4. Ex-Jays prosper here – Shawn Green, Jason Werth (sort of), Cesar Izturis, All-Star Mike Sharperson, Tom Candiotti.

I’ll be honest, the biggest concern regarding the Dodgers is the ownership. What’s the current read on that? Is there going to be massive turnover, or will the team still be committed to putting a winning product on the field?

Where do you live?
Baseball’s a lot different than football in that it’s very regional. You can find Steelers bars in San Diego (no joke) but I can’t imagine you finding a Reds or Yankees bar in LA (if any of you know of a Yankees bar in LA you must SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH for I may be forced to burn it down!*). Which stadium would you be most likely to frequent?
*not really.

I live in London, Ontario, which is about halfway between Detroit, Michigan and Toronto, Ontario.
My fandom of the Jays has led to an intense hatred for all things Yankees, Red Sox and (more recently) Rays.

Is this supposed to be some sort of challenge?
I don’t get it. It seems a bit presumptuous.
I think the Dodger fandom in general is open and receives new fans with open arms, but you would need to seriously sell your qualifications as a fan before we tried to recruit you (e.g. Jevant is a handle for Halladay). It might not be a good fit.
Please do a pre-screen with Phil and then we can vote on it if you passed him.

Not intended to be presumptuous at all
I’ve posted the same fanpost on the other 4 clubs blogs, just trying to get a feel for each team.
Sorry if it came across as a request for recruitment, that was not the intention. Just trying to hear the benefits and disadvantages of each team.

Never give up, never surrender
We could be your NL team but I’d hate to see a fan turn his back on his original team. Smacks of dumping your wife after she gave you the good years and is now looking a bit Kathy Baker instead of anyone of these hot Canadians..

More seriously, I agee with Phil
I know it’s tough competing with the Yankees and the Red Sox in the AL East, but the Rays showed that it can be done, plus you just got rid of that imbecilic GM J. P. Ricciardi, so isn’t there a chance that things could be looking up soon for the Blue Jays. (Or maybe not until Vernon Well’s contract runs out?)

agreed as well
its seems easy for us to say considering our teams have done well recently, but theres something to be said about remaining true to your hometown team no matter what.
As mentioned below, the Kings have never won a stanley cup, and many of us remain loyal to them. Also, keep in mind that the blue jays have won two world series titles since the Dodgers last appeared in the Series.
I was born just months before that ‘88 world series, so its agonizing for me to see us come up short year after year, but i believe one day we’ll get there, and it’ll taste sweet when we do.
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

OK, if your'e serious the choice is obvious
The Tigers,
They may suck, but they have a cool name (who doesn’t like Tigers?), the whole division sucks so who cares, you could see some home games, you could pick up a foreclosure as a place to stay cheaper than a hotel in most major North American cities, and most importantly, you could load up on alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and ammunition to bring back to Canada before you went back across the border and smuggle prescription drugs in to the USA. You could pretty much finance your enitre fandom.
Unless you like good weather, then its LA, if you like the aesthetics of a freeway, then it would be LA de Anaheim.
But I have to agree with Phil, if some of us haven’t given up on the LA Kings, you can probably stick with any team. Maybe you’re second favorite team?, then I would go with the Dodgers.

Be a Dodger fan,
but a Jays fan first. Never surrender on your team. Get an NL team.
I grew up in L.A. as an Oakland A’s fan (long story). I grew to hate the Angels but always maintained a regional connection with the Dodgers which has actually grown since I’ve moved from the area.
When the two teams play eachother I’m an A’s fan all the way, but I still follow the Dodgers very closely.
