Community Projections - James Loney

If you haven't posted your thoughts for the following Dodger projections, take a moment to participate by clicking on the True Blue Community Projections and let us know what you think the future holds for 2009.

One thing that SB Nation encourages us to do are community projections. As spring training starts off let us take a look at James Loney. By the time spring training starts we should have the starting 8 and the rotation done.

Slightly optimistic

.301/.355/.467

He’ll put up solid numbers, but I don’t expect a break out.

Would be a solid year to build on.

Where's the Love, Man?

The numbers put up so far are characterized as being optimistic, solid and some breakout, but they are all more or less what he has averaged already in his career. I am going with .320/.375/.480. So there.

I see some regression on his BABIP accompanying small true talent increases in patience and power. He’ll continue to be uninspiring, but will smile enough and use his (admirable) wit to remain overrated by fans and “analysts” alike.

I, for one, admit to operating under the spell of Weird Game James. Not sure its overrated as much as having seen some potential the previous two seasons, being dissapointed in last season, but willing to give it a ride this season. Especially at these prices.

re:

His 2007 season certainly raised expectations and 2008 then lowered them. We are hoping he’s somewhere in between. Given his age I think he’s more then Lyle Overbay but if not I could live with that if he cuts down the double plays and starts playing upto his defensive potential.

Loney’s year will go a long way in determining the Dodgers’ fate this season.

I think Loney is going to improve his OBP and jump to 20 or so HR….
