Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Per Diamond Leung of The Press-Enterprise, Blake DeWitt exhibited the class one might expect from a veteran upon hearing the news of the signing of Orlando Hudson. A few quotes:

"Somebody's got to get him," DeWitt said. "Why not us?

"It happens. He's a great player. They got a good deal."

On potentially playing SS:

"I wouldn't be opposed to it. I'll give it a shot. Who knows?

"You have to expect the unexpected. You do what you can to help the team. It's all about winning."

It's easy to see why he was so well-liked last season.

Just has to bide his time

until Casey remembers how old he is.

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

Cool

I still think he should have thrown a temper tantrum like Juan Pierre or Andruw Jones or Luis Gonzalez or Jeff Kent.

We call that...

…a “guaranteed future playing time” tantrum. :)

What Do You Expect Him to Say?

He can’t throw a tantrum like Android Jones and the others mentioned above. They are “veterans” who can say whatever the hell they want. DeWitt may become a pretty good player—-he certainly showed flashes last year, although he wasn’t ready….but Hudson, at this point, is an upgrade. Too bad—-but baseball is a cruel game.

I think he's crossing "Andruw" and "steroids"

Using it as a reason for Andruw’s sizeable decline. Of course, you probably already know and were just joking so I’m probably just making a fool of myself.

Now the absurdity of the Casey Blake signing is fully apparent

Not so much from the money perspective, but from the length. DeWitt deserves a shot to play. I hope Torre schedules lots of rest days for Hudson and Blake so that they all stay healthy.

Yeah

That signing doesn’t too good right now. Still not terrible though, only 5.5M per.

re:

It does look terrible now but no one knew a guy asking for 4/40 was only going to get one year at 4-8 mill.

DeWitt

I’m still not convinced he’s ready, though he is, to coin a cliche, a “gritty” player. One more season in the minors. Hudson, if he is healthy, can do the job better right now. As for my Android nickname for Jones—-he certainly isn’t a human being——certainly never acted like one for the Dodgers. Reminded me of the Pilsbury Dough Boy more than anything.
