Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

Forget Manny......

What the dodgers should do is get Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn for less than the 25 million on Manny.  Those Guys will generate ticket sales and more importantly, wins.  Dunn can play first and Abreu in the outfield.  they will generate the same  offensive numbers for you as well with the added benefit of two guys a pitcher has to worry about.  If you have discussed this already, forgive me.  But how is this a bad plan?

Abreu's not very good.

I wouldn’t waste our money on him. Rosenthal and Olney have recently published articles saying that we are considering going after Dunn, Hudson, and Wolf, because combined they would probably just equal the cost of Manny.

I like this idea much better, except for the fact that I’m not sure what happens to Dewitt. I would be worried Ned would trade him away and not get much in return. If Dewitt and Blake could platoon, and then Dewiitt could slowly start to take over the 3rd base job, I think that would be the best way to work this scenario out.

For the last two years Abreu has been worth 2.8 wins and 1.3 wins because his bat has started to fade and his defense is truly abysmal. Meanwhile Hudson has been worth 3.1 wins and 1.9 wins, even while missing significant time in both seasons. At this point they’re pretty similiar hitters. Abreu has posted wOBA’s of .360 and .368 the last two years compared to Hudson’s wOBA’s of .361 and .358. The difference in value is with Hudson you have a decent fielding second baseman while Abreu is a terrible left fielder. Abreu does project to be a bit better with the bat but the positions more than make up the difference.

The only other negative to signing Hudson is that he costs us our first round pick. But if we are going to sign multiple guys in place of Manny, I’d definitely take Hudson over Abreu.

Abreu at first???

So where do you put Loney? Pinch hitting all year? Sorry, this scenario is not well thought out

Paul Lo Duca is MLB's Pablo Escobar..

Pardon me...

The opening thread said Dunn at first, not Abreu. I still don’t like any plan that relegates Loney to the bench…

I suppose we would trade Loney in this scenario.

But we won’t sign both Dunn and Abreu so there’s no need to worry about that.

Forget Dunn & Abreu

I mean are you for real? Manny is the only thing dodgers need. They will be set once they have him. All they need is more pitching. Abreu is old and cant play like he did (prolly ran out of roids) he’s breaking down. Dunn just strikes out 200 times a year. Yeah he hit 40 hr but he strands people on base to much. Manny is the ticket.

WHEN Manny signs

the division simply becomes a two team race between the Dodgers and Zona. Having a 50/50 chance of making the playoffs is about all you can ask for these days. Looking at the 03 Marlins, 06 Cardinals, 08 Phillies, you just need to get in the playoffs and anything can happen. This has to get done. A Ben Sheets and some change doesn’t guarantee such favorable odds.
