Right-Left-Right-Left
Per Tony Jackson, Joe Torre today announced Hiroki Kuroda will start for the Dodgers on Opening Day in San Diego, and that Chad Billingsley will start the home opener on April 13 against the Giants. The first week of starters will look like this:
April 6 @ SD: Kuroda
April 7 @ SD: Wolf
April 8 @ SD: Billingsley
April 9 @ SD: Kershaw
April 10 @ AZ: TBD
April 11 @ AZ: Kuroda
April 12 @ AZ: Wolf
April 13 vs SF: Billingsley
April 14: off day
Incidentally, the Dodgers have only opened the season in San Diego one other time. In 1973, Don Sutton gave up four runs in seven innings in a 4-2 loss to the Padres.

4 man
with no need for a 5th starter until 4/25 @ Colorado.

Would that be a wise strategy?
To use a fifth starter only when needed? I would guess it depends on the composition of the pitching staff. If there is going to be plans to limit Kershaw’s innings, the idea of using a 4 man rotation when possible would seem to be opposed to that.
Just curious…

With the candidates we currently have
we should maneuver as much as possible to avoid pitching them whenever possible.

Is there a particular reason for Billingsley going 3rd?
Or does Joe just not trust him because he’s under 30 years old? It would be smart to have Billz go against the D-Backs whenever possible, seeing as they’re our biggest threat.

Two reasons
1) right/left/right/left
2) to start the home opener.

Are either of those really reasons though?
Why not switch Billingsley and Kurods, since Chad is clearly better? And I don’t see why it matters who starts the home opener. These decisions should be made based on trying to maximize wins.

I agree
Chad is without question the best pitcher on the staff. They’re just trying to spin the move into something positive.
