Mariners @ Dodgers Game Thread

Mariners (12-13-1) @ Dodgers (13-12), 7:05pm

The Mariners come to Camelback Ranch for a rare night game this spring, to be televised by FSN Prime Ticket (tape-delayed until 7:30).

Clayton Kershaw takes the hill for the Dodgers, and will be followed by Josh Lindblom, who has burst onto the scene this spring.  Lindblom was rated as the 4th best Dodger prospect by Baseball America.   Here's what they said about him:

Lindblom touched 96 mph as a college reliever, and he still pitched with plus velocity (89-94) as a pro starter, with plenty of heavy life on his fastball.  His heater bores in on righthanders, his slider has lateral tilt nd his splitter is a swing-and-miss pitch.

Baseball America also opined Lindblom would be the first 2008 Dodger draftee to make the majors.  He's doing his best to make good on that prediction.

Ryan Rowland-Smith is starting on the mound for Seattle, who is on a split squad.  Courtney Thorne-Smith will not be appearing in the game, and is taking things day by day.

Schmidt update

He threw 3 innings in minor league camp, per Michael Becker of the Press-Enterprise. He allowed 6 hits and two runs, but no word on his velocity, which is more important at this point. 45 pitches, 28 for strikes.

Interesting

Hopefully we’ll get some more updates on that

LOL

What’s up with that picture of the guy shooting a hose?

by silverwidow on Mar 24, 2009 3:15 PM PDT reply actions

It wasn't copyrighted

I found some other photos of Lindblom, but most were copyrighted or not cool/funny enough.

I absolutely love that picture

Lindblom

if he does make the team not only he would be the first Dodger from the 2008 draft to make the majors I think he’d be the first player in the draft to make the majors.

It is amazing how many players from the 2006 1st round are still waiting to crack the major leagues while our High School boy is now entrenched into our rotation. I’m counting 18 players and most of them college draftee’s still in the minors.

Giants "beat" us there

when they inexplicably called up pick #37, Conor Gillaspie, last season.

re:

missed it. Nice baseball name.

by meercatjohn on Mar 24, 2009 3:49 PM PDT up reply actions

It was part of his contract.

They had to call him up. Presumably that was put in there by his agent to get him on the 40 man roster as quickly as possible and start using up his options.

by Brendan Scolari on Mar 24, 2009 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Thanks

I just also noticed in the Baseball America Prospect Handbook that Gillaspie had that clause put in to accept the MLB slot recommendation of $970,000 for the #37 pick.

2006 draft

This was a terrific draft. Lincecum, Longoria, Kershaw, Snider = all present/future stars

by silverwidow on Mar 24, 2009 3:50 PM PDT up reply actions

re:

Yet the Rockies got Reynolds, Pirates got Lincoln, Orioles got Rowell. Ouch

I still remember the conversations with Canuck right after the draft that the Dodgers were zeroed in on Morris and that if Kershaw hadn’t dropped into their laps that is who they would have taken with the Kershaw pick. If that had happened, the pedestal that Logan White currently sits on would not be so high.

What's up with the lack of participation

in the community projections? Not exactly a community projection if we can’t even get 10 guesses. Come on people, make an effort.

Billingsley

his injury seems OK. Hopefully he’s still in line to start Saturday, when yours truly will be in attendance.

If everything goes as planned, I should get to see starts by Wolf, Bills, and Kershaw. Hopefully LIndblom will also be on display as well.

No Lindblom tonight

Lyle Spencer lied to me!

The Dodgers welcome the Mariners to Camelback Ranch-Glendale on Tuesday at 7:05 PT in the first night game at the new ballpark. Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 3.52 in five starts) is scheduled to face Seattle’s Ryan Rowland-Smith in a duel of lefties. Following Kershaw will be right-hander Josh Lindblom, who has pitched four scoreless innings in two appearances, striking out four without a walk

Hi Class A action in 2009

So I’m 33 miles from the 66ers stadium, the Hi A affiliate of the Dodgers. And I’m 13 miles from the High Desert Mavericks, so I could see some good Dodger prospects this season.

Perhaps Ethan Martin, Nathan Eovaldi, Kyle Russell, Devaris Gordon?
