Dodgers (13-15) @ White Sox (12-16-1)
Today the Dodgers play a road game at Camelback Ranch with their fellow spring training residents the White Sox. Despite the loss yesterday there was some good news for Dodger fans. Manny went 3-3 at the plate and is batting .500 so far in spring training. Kuroda was able to go 5.2 innings and Kuo pitched an inning unscathed. But the best news was Chad Billingsley's bullpen session, expected to be brief because of his strained right groin, was extended into a normal bullpen. Chad's injury had improved enough to the point where it was felt he could pitch the bullpen and make his next start, albeit in a simulated game.
In the same article Ken Gurnick writes that Claudio Vargas is experiencing soreness in his elbow, which essentially eliminates him from the fifth-starter competition. According to Gurnick, "That leaves three main contenders for fifth-starter role, with rookie James McDonald the apparent front-runner ahead of Eric Milton and Eric Stults".
Anyways, today Randy Wolf will be pitching for the Dodgers.
He will go up against the promising young hurler Gavin Floyd.
Some Dodger notes:
-
Casey Blake will be back in the lineup after missing the game yesterday for the birth of his third child.
-
Manny will bat third in the lineup, according to Joe Torre. Torre says that the cleanup hitter will depend on the opposing pitcher. I'd prefer Manny batting fourth, but that's just me. Torre also said the Delwyn Young and Claudio Vargas could start the season on the DL. Perhaps Delwyn will stay there until injuries open up a spot for him on the roster?

Old friend Eric Gagne made an appearance at Camelback Ranch. Minor league contract?

Tim Kurkjian wrote a good article for ESPN about Greg Maddux. It's worth a look.
