Camelback III: Return of the (Gray) Beard
Dodgers @ White Sox, 12:05pm
The Dodgers play the role of visitor at Camelback Ranch today, in their third of four matchups this spring with the co-tenant Chicago White Sox.
Casey Blake, who played DH in Saturday's loss to Seattle, will return to the field today, starting at 3B.
Clayton Kershaw will start, and be followed by James McDonald, Scott Elbert, and Ramon Troncoso.
Gavin Floyd is scheduled to start for the White Sox.
The game is televised on KCAL Channel 9 available for free on Dodgers.com. Click here to watch.

TV
I thought I saw somewhere The Dodgers/Sox game today was a free broadcast on MLB.com.

KCAL next week
The ST games on the next two Sundays will be on KCAL, but not today’s. At least according to the Dodgers’ own ST schedule on dodgers.com, my cable TV program guide, the LA Times, and anywhere else I can find. But it’s free on computers from MLB.TV via dodgers.com.

Thanks guys
I just got home, ready to sit down to watch the game and noticed neither KCAL or Prime Ticket would show the game. I have updated the link above.

Schmidt to start Monday
Per Ken Gurnick, Schmidt gets to see some real fake action finally tomorrow.

Daylight Savings
Has me all screwed up. I didn’t make the connection that all the 12pm Dodger games this spring up to now were really 1pm games in Arizona. So today, now that we’ve sprung forward an hour, games start at 1pm.
I corrected the time above. Let this be a lesson to you: if you plan a game thread post ahead of time, make sure you get your facts straight! :)

I want to see Kershaw throw three strong innings. He’s only member of the Big Four who’s yet to do so.

If history is any guide
this is the start to do it right? Didn’t each of the other three starters go three innings in their third spring start?

Yup
And I believe this is the first game that Kershaw has had Furcal/Hudson up the middle.

Ethier
For a second, it looked like he forgot there were 2 outs, on Blake’s popup to 2nd. He hesitated between 1st and 2nd there for a bit…maybe he was trying to distract Beckham.

Swet curve
Kershaw didn’t get the call on the 2-2 pitch to Thome, but he got him to ground out. I lost count but Clay K threw something like 20 pitches in the 1st, including a walk to Carlos Quentin.

Hudson
I know he hadn’t played since last August, but he does not look good with the bat.

One of the blessings of spring training
is that we are now a full 29 days away from opening day. :)

Hudson's 2nd AB
He gave it a ride at least. A hard out.

Furcal
Nice spin move and throw up the middle.
White Sox color announcer called Raffy’s "the best arm in all of baseball.

Very nice!
Super quick inning. I’m pretty sure Kershaw is under 30 pitches now through 2 innings. Looks like a third inning — at least — is in the cards.

Another close 2-2 pitch called a ball
thought it was a strike but admittedly the camera view isn’t necessarily accurate.

Dodged a bullet
Alexei (pronounced “Ali-SAY” apparently) Ramirez just missed a 3-run bomb. Just foul to left.

Free?
Is the game actually free on MLB.TV like yesterday? Whenever I click on the link from dodgers.com, it just sends me to the subscription page – wants me to pay. I can get it on Gameday Audio which I already subscribe to, but not video. Is everyone else getting it free on video?

The Dodgers.com link works for me. You have to click on the “watch live” link…were you clicking on that?

Probably just a pitch limit
Sweet offspeed pitch to K Ramirez for the last pitch of the game for Kershaw.
2.2 IP, 2 hits, 1 BB, 2 K
Runners at 2nd & 3rd are his responsibility.

Great play all around
Great range and throw from the grass by Furcal.
Excellent stretch by Mientkiewicz at 1B to end the inning.

Software glitch
Well, it must be a software glitch then. I get these all the time with MLB.TV and Audio. Even though I have a subscription to Gameday Audio, half the time it thinks I don’t and wants me to pay again when I click the radio game I want. I’ve discovered that if I click OK, it then goes to a page that knows all my subscription details (name, email, credit card). At this point, instead of confirming a new subscription, I can go back to the beginning, click the radio game, and now I get there.
Here it seems to be the other way around. Today it knows I have a subscription, which unfortunately isn’t for TV, so it won’t give me the free game, and instead wants me to upgrade to a TV subscription. Bah.
At least I get the KABC radio option (otherwise not available on radio during ST in Santa Barbara). So that’s what I’m listening to. Whoever is going radio today is not bad – has some character and intelligence, a bit like Steiner. A bit straighter. Working well with Lyons (80% the new guy).

I'm not listening to KABC
but I believe Josh Suchon is working his 2nd game today.

Call me crazy
but based on the few crowd shots I have seen between innings there are a ton more Dodgers’ fans than White Sox fans at Camelback Ranch.

Larry King
A standing ovation for Larry King, delaying the start of the inning? Really? Larry Freaking King?
by Eric Stephen on Mar 8, 2009 2:06 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Whew
Just got a report from on-site correspondent JJ24: the ovation was to honor disabled marines from Camp Pendleton. That’s much more appropriate! :)

J-Mac good so far
Nice and easy, 4 up and 4 down, including exiting a jam in the 3rd. 3 groundouts and a strikeout so far.

Knows his stuff
The KABC radio announcer is knowledgeable too – baseball history of the 1890s (distance from mound to plate changing from 50’ to 60’6" in 1893). I like him. I’ll confirm the name when it’s given again (I tuned in late).

Younger or Older voice?
If younger, it’s Suchon. If older, and a little more comical, Ken Levine.
There are 2 more cadidates, as yet unknown.

Older
…and a little (more?) comical, in a dry way, from time to time. Not annoying.
by berkowit28 on Mar 8, 2009 2:25 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's got to be Levine
I think Suchon did PBP Friday and Saturday. There has been seemingly a 2-game tryout for each person so far. I guess we will find out the other candidates by Tuesday and/or Thursday or so.

Beimel
TJ says there’s still some interest in signing him.
by silverwidow on Mar 8, 2009 2:13 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't be opposed to it
Especially if Elbert gets to start everyday in AAA. If he doesn’t, I’d rather have Elbert relieving on the big club than Beimel.
