Mientkiewicz Dislocates Shoulder; MRI Friday
Doug Mientkiewicz dislocated his shoulder sliding into second base in the sixth inning, after his pinch double.
An MRI is scheduled for Friday, but it's safe to assume he's headed for the disabled list. Reader SIlverwidow pointed out the recovery time for a dislocated shoulder can be as much as 4-12 weeks. Yikes.

Me too
but I really doubt they would go out of their way to create a spot for an NRI

Bad timing with the Delwyn Young trade.
Dewitt is probably the right guy to call up.

I don't think DeWitt will be the guy
even though he’s a LHB, because they sent him down to play more. Even if he comes up he’s barely going to play. I would imagine Repko or Paul will make the trip to LA instead.
But then
who’s the pinch hitter against righties? Pierre?

If it's Repko, yes
They have to justify that $10M salary somehow.

Torre won't trust him.
He’s too inexperienced.

In that case, X-Man should be the pick
But would Torre play him over Pierre if a starting OF needs a day off?

Agreed
but no way Paul ever starts over Pierre (just saying what Torre would do)

Why not Dewitt?
He can spell the infielders and pinch hit every other day. Paul would hardly get to play at all. You know Torre would let Pierre pinch hit over Paul.

Cut and dry
The Dodgers want DeWitt prepared for a starting job next year. Sitting on the bench isn’t good preparation.
This is, of course, assuming Hudson is not re-signed (he could be VERY pricey with a big year).
I agree with that
the main reason DeWitt was sent down is so he could play more; he wasn’t going to get much time in his role. That has been proven by the lack of Juan Castro playing time yet; the spot is a true backup spot.
If DeWitt were to come up for a hybrid role include Eye Chart’s ABs, he still would essentially only be pinch hitting.
With Paul, they have more options with using pinch runners, as either Paul or Pierre can be used without burning the only other OF.

True
If Hudson earn’s type A status again, maybe that will keep his contract down.
