Dodgers vs. Padres Overthrow Game Thread

If I woke up tomorrow morning with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be as surprised as I am to see Jeff Weaver throwing four scoreless innings at Dodger Stadium.

Let’s go Loretta! Whatever you did hasn’t happened yet for me!

Dodger Fever: Catch it every summer; head to the ER every October.

With Loretta's hit . . .

. . . Pierre must be feeling useless with each passing day.

Eckinstein couldn’t catch Loretta’s blooper!

It's not his fault he's a mythical creature

that isn’t even 5’ and uses a magical 3" pixie stick to hit.

by Seanny Rotten on Apr 30, 2009 9:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Wow

O Dog and Blake scores on the throwing error

by Michael White on Apr 30, 2009 9:40 PM PDT reply actions

We have the lead

but 1B is open for Manny :( … but :D

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 9:40 PM PDT reply actions

I wasn't around earlier

Is the general thought now that McDonald needs to be yanked from the rotation?

by silverwidow on Apr 30, 2009 9:41 PM PDT reply actions

+1 i wasnt around either and im curious

by Rutgers Dodger fan on Apr 30, 2009 9:42 PM PDT up reply actions

his box score had tons of walks

by Rutgers Dodger fan on Apr 30, 2009 9:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes

I speculated he will be sent down because he’s a mess right now….not even enough control to be in the pen.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 9:42 PM PDT up reply actions

crazy to think this is the same pitcher that was money in the playoffs last year

by Rutgers Dodger fan on Apr 30, 2009 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

But also remember

he pitched in 0 close games all of last year with the big club. It was all no-pressure mop up duty

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 9:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I would go with

crazy to think it’s the same guy that has been money the last two full years :)

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 9:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

I think it’s probably best for both him and the Dodgers in the long run.

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Better not lose that lead

We make Heath Bell look like Gagne ’03.

by silverwidow on Apr 30, 2009 9:48 PM PDT reply actions

Wow

Manny is still in the game. I’m sorry, but that’s just an unbelievably dumb move to use Pierre there and not keep him in.

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 9:49 PM PDT reply actions

It's only a 1-run game

if the Padres tie it, Manny’s spot probably bats in the 9th.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 9:50 PM PDT up reply actions

That's fine

But then don’t waste Pierre there. The odds of Pierre’s speed mattering over Loretta’s was about 1%.

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 9:51 PM PDT up reply actions

"The odds of Pierre’s speed mattering over Loretta’s was about 1%"

I’m not trying to be combative, but can you show your work on that one?

It just seems logical to me that you would want the professional pinch runner in the game over a 35 year old in a scenario where the faster you are the easier it is to score a run.

by Michael White on Apr 30, 2009 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Just think about

How often a little extra speed makes a difference there. About the only time it would matter is a bang-bang play on a sac fly, which has a very small chance of happening.

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions

In other words

Pierre was put in so if he scored to increase the lead he probably would have stayed in

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 9:52 PM PDT up reply actions

BUt he didn't score

So he was wasted. There was no reason to not just wait until after the inning if that was the case.

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 9:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Whew

we don’t need a Repko-Furcal II

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 9:52 PM PDT reply actions

Man Kemp can run

Okay so I’m new here. Explain the bison thing please

by piambal on Apr 30, 2009 9:59 PM PDT reply actions

Originated on DT

In Kemp’s first series as a big leaguer, in Washington, Don Sutton said he looked like a buffalo running or something like that. It was corrected on Dodger Thoughts to a Bison, and the nickname stuck. El Lay Dave (and Bob Timmermann) was prominently involved

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 10:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Molly Knight of ESPN

confirmed in spring training that Kemp drew a winged Bison on his shoes!!!

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 10:02 PM PDT up reply actions

I think it was Kemp's second series

in Atlanta where it orginated.

The Washington game was a Sunday morning where he struck out 3 times and people were overreacting, calling him another Mondesi, etc.

by silverwidow on Apr 30, 2009 10:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I just can't get over that

Pierre pinch ran for nothing, and then Stults hits. Terrible managing…

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 10:05 PM PDT reply actions

Would have been more defensible

if Ausmus batted just now instead of Stults.

by Eric Stephen on Apr 30, 2009 10:06 PM PDT up reply actions

It would have still been indefensible to me.

A runner’s speed just matters so little once you’re already at third. The difference is basically nothing, and he wasted one of his only bench players. I just can’t understand what Torre was thinking there…

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 10:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Easy Raffy

Too aggressive these last two at bats.

by Brendan Scolari on Apr 30, 2009 10:07 PM PDT reply actions

Someone in the Dodger clubhouse

perhaps Joe Torre, uses AOL. During the postgame interviews in Torre’s office, “you’ve got mail” was heard in the background.
