2009 Dodger Prediction Contest: The Final
The 2009 Dodger Prediction Bracket is now down to the last two teams.
Remember, what you are voting on is: Which of these teams is most like the 2009 Dodgers?
2004 Dodgers
Record: 93-69, .574, 1st place NL West
104 OPS+, 102 ERA+
A vote for the 2004 Dodgers could mean that the ace of the staff will have 18 no-decisions this year, the Dodgers will trade for an Arizona outfielder (Eric Byrnes?) who will hit a walk-off grand slam to win the division, and the extra speedy outfielder, Juan Pierre, will be traded to the eventual World Series winner, getting a key stolen base in the League Championship Series.
1963 Dodgers
Record: 99-63, .611, WS Champs
98 OPS+, 105 ERA+
A vote for the 1963 Dodgers could mean that the Dodgers will get 54 wins out of their three young starters, an outfielder with prodigous power, and a wonderful season out of the closer. Oh yeah, and the club will also sweep the highly-touted Yankees in the World Series.
When voting, remember you are choosing which team most closely resembles the 2009 Dodgers. Take into account the regular season record, postseason performance, and strength of offense and pitching.
Final Four voting will run through Monday night.

Abstain?
I may sit this one out, having voted in every round until now. I don’t think either of these is a good predictor for 2009 (Sweep the world series? Get knocked out out of the division series with only one win?). There were better comparisons in earlier rounds, but I got outvoted. I might think about ignoring the guidelines and looking just at the W/L record for the regular season. Which frankly I also did several times along the way in earlier rounds.
