Nine years ago, at age 23, Silva was a dishwasher at an Outback Steakhouse in Palm Desert and taking classes at the College of the Desert.
Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union Tribune gives us a glimpse of the mysterious Walter Silva, the 32-year old pitcher making his major league debut Wednesday against the Dodgers.
I grew up in Palm Springs, and I've eaten at that very Outback Steakhouse on numerous occasions. Could our paths have crossed? Perhaps not, but remember the next time you get gas or buy a newspaper, the person helping you just might end up pitching in the big leagues someday!
