Eric Milton Called Up, Will Start Saturday
Eric Milton had his contract purchased from Albuquerque today, per Sports Illustrated, and he will start Saturday at Florida. That game starts at 3:10, but due to Fox broadcast rights, KCAL won't begin televising the game (in progress) until 4pm. Here's hoping Milton is still in the game by the time the game comes on TV.
James McDonald was sent down to Albuquerque to make room on the active roster for Milton. More info to follow.

Silverwidow will be spewing venom along with Kensai.
This is a strange move considering how well Weaver has done to date. Do you think Weaver simply told them that he’s only comfortable coming out of the pen? I hope James gets his game back together, it will be a challenge in the PCL.
I’m optimistic that Milton can give us 5 – 6 innings of 4.00 – 4.50 work but I have nothing to base that on other then my intuition which is usually wrong when it comes to 5th starters. I think the last time I was correct about a Dodger 5th starter was when I blasted Depo for going with Erickson and that wasn’t exactly going out on a limb. I thought Tomko could at least be a 5th starter. I thought Loaiza could at least be a 5th starter. We should be seeing a flurry of statistical analysis showing that Milton hasn’t a snowballs chance in hell of being successful. I’m going to stay out of harms way.

Looks like the magic year of 1974 – Rau, Zahn, Downing, John but I’m not sure yet if they were all in the rotation at the same time. Very likely Zahn replaced John when he got hurt.
I don't care
about this anymore. The results will speak for themselves.
Also, I’ve seen enough mediocre veterans proliferate the active roster during Ned’s regime to have confidence that Milton will be dumped right away if he’s terrible. I think he’ll be given far more rope than Kershaw and especially Stults.
I'd be happy to bet you
Stults will more innings from now until the end of the year than Milton.
I’m still not sure where you are getting that the organization has limited confidence in Kershaw.

So Fox owns the rights to the game but KCAL will broadcast it in progress?
We will miss seeing Milton giving up all those home runs.
When will people learn? Democracy doesn't work!
Fox has exclusive rights from 10-4 on Saturday to cover their regional games of the week. Nobody else can broadcast a baseball game for those 6 hours.
The Dodger game just happens to start in the last hour of Fox exclusivity.

Common sense comes up short again
You would think that baseball, in its infinite wisdom, would make exceptions for situations such as this. Is this caused simply because the game has such a strange start time? I don’t remember a Dodger game ever being “joined in progress”.
Why is Florida starting a Saturday game at 6:10 their time?
Is it so the suite holders can get to the South Beach parties on time?
I’m not crazy about the move either, though if Jeff Weaver is convinced he’s better suited to relieving, so be it. I know our middle relief has been soft, so shoring up that area by making a straight exchange in the #5 spot of the rotation might not be worth getting upset over. Milton’s not exactly blocking anyone here, as he is the next starter in line anyway.
I’m also not going to worry about how this affects Stults, as I believe he has earned his spot in the rotation. Plus, the chances of Milton pitching so well that we’re forced into a difficult decision when Kuroda returns couldn’t quite be consider a problem.
Finally, this move does illustrate some confusion I’m seeing on an organizational level WRT developing our pitchers as starters or relievers. What is McDonald right now? Quick, does anybody know? Lindblom is a starter now, but many think he’ll eventually wind up in the pen. Elbert has switched around so many times I can’t even keep track (I think his long-term role will be starting). I like flexibility (not as much as NedCo), but all this experimenting is starting to smack of indecision.
question
How does one reply to a comment and have it appear underneath and a little to the right? I was trying to reply to mwhite06’s comment. Thanks. [Great blog!]
One can easily be fooled if one is trying to reply to the bottommost comment, particularly if it is not indented.

There is a way the move makes sense
There’s not much more for Milton to do at AAA. With the fifth starter job in flux anyone, this is way to find out whether or not Milton can be passable at the major-league level or not. If he blows, he can be DFAed. With the 13-man pitching staff, if Milton gets monstered, Weaver is ready in long relief.
I’d like to know what Milton’s new contract terms are.
