Russell Martin Home Run Contest

Last week James Loney beat Martin to the punch and launched not one but two home runs on the road trip. Alas Coltrane is still sitting with zero home runs so we need to help get him going. This is a brief six game home stand against some very pedestrian pitching. You may only pick from one of the games on the current homestand.

In Martins young career his first home run of the year occurred on:

2006 - May 7th, 3rd game ever

2007 - April 3rd, 2nd game of season

2008 - April 15th, 14th game

Martin's bat has come alive in May so we aren't complaining, we are just having fun with it.

This isn’t the Juan Pierre contest

If it’s an inside the park job, we may have to award an additional prize :)

Sheffield will dive and miss and Beltran will forget to back him up. I feel pretty strongly about this one. ;)

by kinbote on May 18, 2009 11:23 AM PDT up reply actions

The idea that Sheffield would dive is handicapping your guess.

by meercatjohn on May 18, 2009 11:25 AM PDT up reply actions

However he could easily fall down.

by meercatjohn on May 18, 2009 11:25 AM PDT up reply actions

That reminds me of the old Carney Lansford line

someone said his range at 3B was however far he could reach as he fell down.

by Eric Stephen on May 18, 2009 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions

I smell another contest

Who will dive first, Sheffield or Ethier? :)

by Eric Stephen on May 18, 2009 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions

What about the Brian Downing Special? That’s when you fall down AFTER you catch the ball, thus resulting in a diving catch of sorts. He was a left fielder, sort of.

Won’t Ausmus be starting that game? Are you predicting a pinch hit home run?

by meercatjohn on May 18, 2009 12:29 PM PDT up reply actions

good call, totally forgot about that…. No, I was trying to give him every advantage to have the ball carry further…. well…. my guess is in, crazier things have happened….

Livan Hernandez?!

I’d make a bad pun off of “Livan” but they’re all just too painfully awful.
