Padres Trade For Tony Gwynn
Tony Gwynn Jr. that is. With the potential Peavy deal making the headlines, the Padres actually made another move that's a bit more under-the-radar by trading Jody Gerut to the Brewers for Tony Gwynn Jr.
Gerut was great last year when he hit .296/.351/.494 for a .365 wOBA and plus defense in center field. But this year he was only hitting in .221/.248/.381 in 121 PA's for a .270 wOBA, albeit with a .241 BABIP. Gwynn is a 26 year-old outfielder with a career .248/.300/.298 major league line in 264 PA's.
This seems like an excellent buy-low opportunity for the Brewers to me.

I fully expect
Gwynn to contribute to a Trevor Hoffman blown save during their series August 11-13, this time with the teams reversed.
