Three Stars of the Day 5/24/09
1. James McDonald - RHP - Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA)
In his second start since being demoted to the minors, McDonald pitched four innings, striking out five and walking three. McDonald gave up one earned run on three hits. McDonald's pitch count reached 69 of which 41 were thrown for strikes. In his previous start, McDonald went just two and two-thirds of an inning. The 'Topes ended up losing 3-2 against the Salt Lake Bees the Angels Triple-A affiliate.
2. Tony Abreu - SS - Chattanooga Lookouts (AA)
After a hitless day at the plate the game before, Abreu tripled and doubled in the Lookouts losing effort against the Carolina Mudcats. Abreu was 2-5 with two runs driven in and a run scored. Abreu's double was his fourth of the year and his triple was his first. It was Abreu's fifth multi-hit game of the season.
3. Nick Buss - CF - Great Lakes Loons (A-)
Buss, an eighth round pick out of USC in last year's draft, was assigned to Great Lakes in early May to take over for a struggling Erik Kanaby provided the offense for the Loons in their 2-1 loss to Clinton. Buss hit a solo Home Run in the fourth inning to account for the Loons' sole run. Buss' Homer was his second of the season. Buss also singled to finish the game 2-4 from the plate. It was Buss' second Home Run of the season and his 12th RBI.
