Prospect Update - May 25th

Clicking on any of the player links will take you to http://firstinning.com an excellent site with easy to read advanced statistics for the current season.

AAA - Albuquerque Isotopes:

James McDonald - went only four inning in his last start with 3 walks. Since being demoted for lack of balls and focus he's made two starts, and has gone a total of 6 2/3 innings. Not the guy who dominated AAA/AA the last two years.

Blake DeWitt-- Still collecting a hit/walk a game for the most part. Struck out twice for the first time yesterday since May 2nd. Starting to only play 2nd base exclusively in May.  His wOBA is still sitting at a robust .398 but in the PCL that would not crack the top 10. Line Drive rate at a nice 28%, with a 15% walk rate, and only a 10% K Rate. Peripherals are holding up nicely.

Xavier Paul--on the DL, fighting a staph infection. This could be problematic for Paul the rest of his life.

AJ Ellis--like Martin, still waiting to hit his first home run of 2009

Jason Repko--Repko just came off the DL on Monday and collected a hit to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. His last hit came on May 11th, so he waited 14 days before extending his streak. He now looks up and see's both Paul and Hoffman a head of him on the depth chart. Repko was coming on fast when he hit the DL and needs to keep it going.

Chin Lung-Hu--

Jamie Hoffman--Now in the majors he replaced Paul and had two solid games playing for the injured Ethier. He looks just like his clipping. Big strapping kid with good speed, good defensive instincts, and a solid arm. Pulled a home run into the left field seats for his first home run and that may have been the last time I saw him pull a ball the rest of his ab's over the weekend.  Certainly looks like he has a future as a fourth outfielder, not bad for a guy who was ranked by BA as our 22nd top prospect.

Charlie Haeger--roughed up in his May 22nd start to the tune of 5 runs in 5 innings to end a streak of four solid starts.

Dee Brown - the 31 year old Brown was once a top prospect in the Royal organization but never approached his minor league numbers when given the chance. Now this years Mark Lindsey he's giving the Isotopes plenty of power and hit three home runs in one game last week. For the month of May he's boasting an OPS of 1.140, a wOBA of .454. For the season he has an eye popping ISOP.339 good for 5th in the offensive fueled PCL.

Hector Luna -  not to be outdone, 29 year old Hector Luna playing 3rd base, 1st, or DH is 2nd in the league in wOBA at .466

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AA - Chattanooga Lookouts:

Joshua Bell--

Andrew Lambo--hit his first home run in May on the 22nd but has since gone 1 for nine, and his awful May continues with 25% of his May at bats turning into strike outs.

Jesus Castillo--Followed up his Southern Pitcher of the Week from May 11th-May 17 with a decent effort at home giving up eight hits and three runs in six inning.

Josh Lindblom--Came out of the bullpen on May 20th to throw 5 innings of shutout ball with six k's.

Scott Elbert--has given up 17 hits in his last eight innings and was just mauled on May 23rd giving up 7 hits and 4 walks in only 3 innings.

Francisco Felix--

Tony Abreu--he's playing and hitting

Brent Leach--

Victor Garate- just got back from the DL on May 18 and has made three appearances without giving up a run.

Travis Schlichting--gave up his first earned run last week.

Eduardo Perez--promoted to AA last week after wrecking havoc on the California league, he's playing 1st base.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A+ - Inland Empire 66ers Team Statistics

Scott Van Slyke--MLB-Scott Van Slyke--

Trayvon Robinson--

Pedro Baez--Hit two home runs yesterday and now has eight on the year.

Steven Caseres--

Steve Johnson--after being one of the best pitchers in the Cal League he ran into a bump last night, getting knocked out after only 3 innings. He only gave up one earned run but also only struck out one batter after averaging over 10 K's per 9 innings.

Chris Withrow--With Eric not watching he put up a nice rebound game going 5 innings with 5 K's. Walks are still problematic with four.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A - Great Lake Loons Team Statistics

Jaime Pedroza--

Dee Gordon--After scorching the league in the early part of May, he's cooled off considerably but still showing plus speed skills with 24 stolen bases.

Kyle Russell--just waiting for a promotion

Tony Delmonico--

Austin Gallagher--

Alfredo Silverio--

Ethan Martin--Martin has finally hit a speed bump. His last start was abysmal.

Justin Miller--

Nathan Eovaldi--His best effort of the year came last week with 5 solid innings. Only 2 earned runs with 4 K's and only 2 walks. Nothing like we expected but maybe he's getting his feet under him after a very rocky start.

Javy Guerra--continues to excel as a closer, check out the numbers that ASUCruz May 25th, Prospect of the day Post

Robert Boothe--See above, for more information on how Boothe is faring as he also made May 25th, Prospect of the Day.

Blake Dewitt's line looks great

With him playing 2B exclusively, he gives us quite a nice asset, whether it is for the big club next year (if Hudson gets a monster offer to go elsewhere) or as trade bait down the stretch.

If the Dodgers go back down to a normal sized pitching staff, is Dewitt next in line for a call up? I have to figure he is, not too much more he needs to work on down in AAA.

Maybe, probably between DeWitt and Tony Abreu who has been playing 2nd/SS, so if he can stay healthy he might get the bump.

The one thing I regret most from Saturday was not asking Stan Conte if the Dodgers are doing any extra precautionary measures to make sure these staph infections don’t become commonplace in the locker room.

I saw Conte on the field, but he was talking with Colletti and I didn’t want to interrupt them, then I turned away for a second and he was gone.
