3 Prospect Stars Of The Day 5/27/09

Three Stars of the Day 5/27/09

1. Jon Michael Redding - RHP - Great Lakes Loons (A-)

After turning in his worst start the season in which Redding lasted just 1.1 innings and surrendered six runs, Redding bounced back with his best start of the season. Redding threw six innings of shutout ball. He struck out a 11 batters, a career high. Redding scattered four hits during his stint and didn't walk a single batter. Only a rain delay that lasted almost an hour could stop Redding. The Loons bullpen did its job, with Javy Guerra pitching two innings to earn his 12th save of the year. Redding earned his sixth win of the season and he improves his record to 6-2.

2. Chris Withrow - RHP - Inland Empire 66ers (A+)

Withrow took over for Hiroki Kuroda who was making his second rehab start and pitched five solid innings. Withrow took the loss but only gave up one run in his relief appearance. Withrow struck out ten men while walking none, and gave up three hits. The loss gave Withrow a 3-4 record. On the season Withrow has struck out 50 batters 31.2 innings of work.

3. Chin-lung Hu - 2B - Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA)

Hu's Grand Slam keyed the Isotopes come from behind win from a five run deficit. Hu has a Home Run in his last two games giving him two on the year. Hu's Homer was his only hit of the night and his four RBI upped his total to 21.

Awesome pitching performances.

Love me those double digit K games.

Definitely

Too bad Chattanooga got rained out. Might have another one with Lindblom slated to go. Oh well there’s always tomorrow. Martin also throws tomorrow.

Stupid Laker game

I would have been able to cover the IE game to see both Kuroda and Withrow. Oh well.

The Laker game was pretty great though.

Kuroda got crunched by A leaguers?

Kuroda had a great quote

in the Times:

I’m not at a point where I can return to the majors with my chest stuck out, but I hope to get back as soon as possible.

It seems like Withrow must have nasty stuff

He just needs to work on the control. He does have a 3.25 FIP on the year though, so he has been getting unlucky.

Oh

And it’s good to see Chin-Ling Hu hitting the ball with some authority.
