Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

With a 21-8 start, including 13-0 at home, Dodger fans have probably been thinking, "this is too good to be true."

What could possibly go wrong this year?

Well, this!

DAMN IT! DAMN IT!!

Son of a gun … so we get to replace the best right handed hitter since DiMaggio with someone who will no doubt lead the league in outs while he’s in. Marvelous.

Nooooo!!!!

Slappy starting is worse!!!

WTF

I thought this was a strange April fools joke. I’m still not quite sure I believe it. I’m going to do some work and then come back and hope this all went away.

Brendan, I’ve got my yes on you buddy.

Last night was sooo coooool I was driving home wondering what bad news I’d find awaiting me. At least it waited until this morning.

by meercatjohn on May 7, 2009 9:01 AM PDT reply actions

The Times article mentions a buzz circulating around Dodger Stadium last night with the news. I heard nothing!!!

WOW - I can't believe it

We’ll be able to weather the storm not doubt, we are deep and should be at least .500 in the next 50 games.

Hopefully the medication will be something that doesn’t taint his legacy

by DonovanNeb on May 7, 2009 9:04 AM PDT reply actions

HA!

regards to his legacy. Do you really think people will let this slide? Remember how much shit everyone gave Bonds? Especially on this site? Some of the biggest Bonds haters out there are into this blog.

Sure it sucks that we lose manny for fifty games, but we should stay true to ourselves and dish out the same criticism we’ve been tossing at Bonds. Manny cheats!!! Just like A-rod, clemens and most of baseball.

So I guess I was right that Manny would not play > 130 games:(

I imagine the 6.5 game lead you have on the rest of the division is as well.

We’ll work the next fifty games just to catch back up with you and then oh great, you get Manny back.

being that against a LHP they might break up Ethier and Loney so they aren’t back to back

by metal_militia on May 7, 2009 9:19 AM PDT reply actions

No panic trade. What would be the point in fifty games? What would you do with the guy you traded for? The only panic move would be to move Loney and prospects for a slugging 1st baseman.

by meercatjohn on May 7, 2009 9:20 AM PDT up reply actions

I wasn't advocating it actually

Though I have in the past I’ll admit. My worries about Ned panicking is probably unfounded, since I’m sure he believes we can get by with Pierre. And I think he’s right, we can get by with Pierre (and bring up Paul or something.)

I thought only the low level guys where the people who got caught by the Major League Test. I thought all the superstars where doing such advanced stuff that the test would not get them.
Who’s the second biggest name to get busted by this test?

by Sordid on May 7, 2009 9:20 AM PDT reply actions

That, to me

lends credence to the “tainted medication” theory. Still, athletes should be more careful about the ingredients of these things

by Eric Stephen on May 7, 2009 9:21 AM PDT up reply actions

Did MLB come out and say it was tainted medication in the Romero Case?

I just need to be able to root for the guy when he comes back. I can deal with 50 games of slappy.

by Jacob Burch on May 7, 2009 9:22 AM PDT up reply actions

Juan Pierre
Its how he hits for power and has amazing arm strength…
I guess I cant make as much fun of JP anymore since he is our guy

by Big Blue on May 7, 2009 9:22 AM PDT up reply actions

Now I have a question

Is this 50 game suspension set in stone? Can Manny/Dodgers challenge it? If does turn out to be a Romero Case he still does sit 50 because it was banned?

I hate waiting…. have a press conference already!

by Big Blue on May 7, 2009 9:23 AM PDT reply actions

I think it's set in stone

the only relief for Manny is probably suing the doctor for his lost salary and/or potential lost future income

by Eric Stephen on May 7, 2009 9:25 AM PDT up reply actions

Does Boras still get commission on suspended pay? Just curious.

What do we call treating everyone equally when they are clearly not equal? Communism!

by Sordid on May 7, 2009 9:32 AM PDT reply actions

Yes.

At least, that was my understanding based on Manny’s comments.

by Brendan Scolari on May 7, 2009 10:27 AM PDT up reply actions

Me too.

My phone kept going off, so I checked my text messages, and then bam!

by Brendan Scolari on May 7, 2009 10:28 AM PDT up reply actions

Ugh. Ugh. Dan Ugh-LA.

1. How will Dodger fans react when manny returns? Dodger fans were notorious for booing Bonds at the height of the steroid scandal. Clearly, if Manny’s case is more of a banned medicine issue, then there won’t be as much hypocrisy involved?

2. So, our option is Pierre, then, with X-Paul as the 4th outfielder? What if Torre platoons left-field? Would that be a better option than the more obvious one?

3. Why issue the ban after the Dodgers’ historic night? I hate to be the one to say it, but this reeks of conspiracy, almost as if Bud or someone knew of the suspension and withheld it just so the record could get broken in an effort to cast some light on the MLB during the NBA/NHL playoffs . . .

by Dr. Geek on May 7, 2009 9:33 AM PDT reply actions

Regarding Point 3

Did you hear anybody talking about the record? All I heard was about Artest, Fisher, Kobe etc. If anything launched MLB to the front of the conversation, its the test, not the record.

by Michael White on May 7, 2009 9:36 AM PDT up reply actions

Earlier in the morning

I heard about the record and how they sent Torre’s hat to the Hall of Fame. I feel asleep again and woke up to this nightmare.

What do we call treating everyone equally when they are clearly not equal? Communism!

Manny's Statement

by Big Blue on May 7, 2009 9:39 AM PDT reply actions

a second opinion

first the backgound: Baseball added HCG to its list of banned substances last year.

OK now, here’s what a doctor said ,,,

"It’s not infrequently part of the mix of the poly-drug approach to doping," said Dr. Gary Wadler, chairman of the committee that determines the banned-substances list for the World Anti-Doping Agency. "It typically is used most when people are coming off a cycle to restore to normal biophysiological feedback mechanisms."
