Dodger Draft Day Recap - Day Two

I can't really do better then the recap provided by David Ely of MLB on day two. I'm not being lazy but I've got nothing to add to his simple recaps of these late draft picks, and an excellent write up on the Big 12 player of the year that we nabbed in the middle of the draft.

Thanks to Mark Rogoff of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the table below.

It would be interesting if they can sign Shaffer, the 25th rounder

Maybe do a LaRoche?

It's not Dodgers related

but I would like to congratulate my good friend’s little brother, Max Peterson, for being drafted by the Oakland A’s in round 18 yesterday!

At least he wasn’t drafted by the other bay area team…

They listed him as Gavin, too. I may need to add a new rule to live by.

You can draft literally anyone, provided they meet some minimum requirements.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2009 9:53 AM PDT up reply actions

Still seems a bit odd.

What if the Dodgers drafted him, and then went through the pretense of signing him and placing him on some team.

What do you tell him when you have to cut him?

“Er, I know this is going to eventually get me fired, but we have to cut you Gavin. Don’t worry, your father is already coming with the private jet to pick you up so you can catch tonight’s Dodgers game.”

The Dodgers had Jim Campanis, son of their GM Al, back in the late 1960s. And his dad traded him.

There had to be some favoring going on

because there’s no doubt that the Red Sox are his dream team.

Muhammad Ali's son

just got drafted by the Angels.

It’s getting ridiculous. Bloodline city.

Maybe the Dodgers can draft Leon Spinks, Jr.

Maybe John Henry has a son named Patrick the Dodgers can draft, quid pro quo.

Chad Kreuter’s son just went to AZ…I hope he at least gets a cap that someone can steal.

Hahahaha

The Marlins just had a bunch of clapping in their “war room,” but the audio got cut off almost immediately by the conference call admin.

Seems to be some trouble getting the Dodgers’ 44th pick.

Nationals started round 46 by drafting Seth Greene

by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2009 11:06 AM PDT reply actions

btw, that’s Tommy Greene’s son.

Round 46

The Dodgers drafted a HS shortstop, Stephen Piscotty, who has already committed to go to Stanford.

Here is the MLB scouting video on him.

He was a two-way player in HS, and was MVP of his league this year.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2009 11:14 AM PDT reply actions

have the dodgers drafted anyone interesting in rounds 30 – 45?

by matthewmafa on Jun 11, 2009 11:14 AM PDT reply actions

Not that I know of

none had a scouting report on MLB.com until Piscotty (#46)

West Virginia QB Pat White was just drafted for the 3rd straight year, by the Yankees. They announced:

We’d like to have him listed as a quarter…a center fielder.

White was also drafted by the Angels in 2007, and by the Reds in 2008.

White was drafted by the Dolphins in the 2nd round of this year’s NFL draft.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2009 11:33 AM PDT reply actions

Duquesne catcher Mark Tracy, son of Jim, was just drafted by the Rockies.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2009 11:36 AM PDT reply actions

Dodgers just took Christian Walker, a power-hitting 3B from Kennedy-Kendrick Catholic HS in round 49…could be interesting. He’s committed to South Carolina

He was in a HR contest with Bryce Harper!

by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2009 11:41 AM PDT reply actions

Also, Walker is from Norristown, PA…same as Tommy Lasorda.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 11, 2009 11:44 AM PDT up reply actions

I dare say

he has elite power. Especially if he’s hitting HRs with guy that has transcendant power!
