Seems like it
Like most Rice pitchers he’s had some arm surgery. The Dodgers could be just taking it easy with him, but my feeling is he is being groomed to be used in a relief role.

What is it with Rice and trying to kill people's arms?

Yeah, but Rice seems to do it on a sysmantic level.
I know Tony Gwynn trying to protect Strasburg’s arm at San Diego St. was the exception and not the rule, but Rice’s M.O. seems to be to burn through as many arms as possible.
I guess what I’m saying is that you’d think the reputation would scare off more pitchers.

Rice
Yea, Rice has a infamous reputation for pitchers and arm injuries. When they won the CWS they had an awesome rotation consisting of Jeff Niemann, Wade Townsend, and Phillip Humber. All three guys have suffered arm injuries since!
All College coaches are guilty of these see Augie Garrido with Austin Wood or George Horton with Jason Windsor a few years back. Its irresponsible but these guys are paid to win titles. It sucks to say it but the reality is the future careers of these pitchers is not the highest priority.

It’s hard to blame them. When you get to Omaha at this point its basically a win at all costs mentality. Especially for UNC who has come so close, especially in 2006 and 2007.
I don’t think 131 pitches is that bad. What could be bad is what Fox will do with White in his next start.

Charlie Haeger
lost 1 – 0, giving up only 4 hits and one run. Claudio Vargas pitched one shutout inning. Wonder what his time frame is?
