Kong > Mitch-A-Palooza

Although, right now, he’s Eric Milton from a couple of months ago to me.

Kong is a great knickname...

But I think Mitch Jones wins the “coolness” contest if he decides to use this as his at bat song at Dodger Stadium…

This was fairly clear before, but Steiner & Monday just noted that Kershaw will pitch Friday and Milton on Saturday, against the Mariners.

Incidentally, that will be Milton’s 5th start, netting him a $50,000 bonus.

Speaking of bonuses, Orlando Hudson is 5 plate appearances away from earning another $250,000 (for his 325th PA).

That means

we won’t get the dream Clay K vs. King Felix super match-up.

Days' rest

Kershaw:

4 days: 3.24 ERA
5 days: 5.11 ERA

Starting him on Friday is the right call.

by silverwidow on Jun 23, 2009 5:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Is that this season or career?

After a good start against the Angels, Torre and Honeycutt will say they don’t want to break Kershaw’s rhythm.

by David Young on Jun 23, 2009 5:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Pierre and Podsednik

What a leadoff/LF duo that is.

Both have been surprisingly successful hitters this season. Small sample size, or are there sufficiently fewer juiced-up pitchers that the punch-and-judy types can be successful again? (I think the former is more likely.)

by David Young on Jun 23, 2009 5:03 PM PDT reply actions

The Dodgers will see two of the same White Sox starters as last year, Floyd and Danks. The White Sox will not see any that were the same as last year (Lowe, Stults, Kershaw).

by David Young on Jun 23, 2009 5:05 PM PDT reply actions

Might happen in Thursday's day game

When Joe gets to play with house money.

The 40-year old Ausmus can’t catch every day any more IMHO, so you can’t do that for the whole series.

If Martin DHs Thursday against the LHP Richard, then Mitch Jones tonight against the LHP Danks makes more sense than tomorrow against RHP Floyd.

So the Dodgers are going with a five-man infield to start the game? I always thought the CF played in between 2nd and SS, I guess Torre must really trust O-Dog’s defensive abilities.

As is Gurnick

Gurnick

Ethier went 2-for-5 Sunday but was hitting .177 in his previous nine games. He was hitting .317 the day Ramirez was suspended and his average has fallen to .268 going into Tuesday night’s game. His combined OPS has dropped from .996 to .827.

I can cherry-pick my stats too.
In June, before tonight:
.300 / .347 / .600 / .947 – Ethier
.273 / .309 / .325 / .633 – Pierre

O-Dog needs two baserunners in the 9th to get his 5th PA of the game, to net a cool $250k

Lots of movement on Kuroda’s pitches

by shoothoop on Jun 23, 2009 7:17 PM PDT reply actions

Kuroda’s game score is 86 right now. If he pitches a 1-2-3 9th with no strikeouts, the game score will be 91.

Kuroda had a 91 & 90 last year.

Eric Stults and his Saturday afternoon shutout has the Dodgers’ highest game score of 2009, at 84. Kershaw’s 13 K game netted an 83.

Kuroda’s career high in Ks is 11.

The Washington Wizards are close to a deal that would send the No. 5 pick in Thursday’s draft, Oleksiy Pecherov, Etan Thomas and Darius Songaila to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Randy Foye and Mike Miller, a league source told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher on Tuesday.

by Tripon on Jun 23, 2009 7:27 PM PDT reply actions

The players the Wizard traded are scrubs.

The main point is that they gave up the 5th pick for Miller and Foye.

Players that aren’t great.

by Tripon on Jun 23, 2009 7:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Timberwolves gave up Foye not the Wizards

by shoothoop on Jun 23, 2009 7:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Right

But Tripon said Foye wasn’t great.

by Brendan Scolari on Jun 23, 2009 7:35 PM PDT up reply actions

i think Foye could be awesome

he was a star at Villanova and has all the tools to be great in the NBA. he graded out literally identical to Brandon Roy in that draft, which shows you the potential. He battled injuries last year and averaged 16/4

by bucknellbruin on Jun 23, 2009 7:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh well. Still a great game for Kuroda, even though he gave up a single there (his third)…would have been 17 straight.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 23, 2009 7:33 PM PDT reply actions

Argh

Let him finish the game.

by Brendan Scolari on Jun 23, 2009 7:35 PM PDT reply actions

Oh come on!

It’s Jim Thome for crying out loud!

by Jesse S. on Jun 23, 2009 7:35 PM PDT reply actions

Kuroda's coming out, Broxton's coming.

I don’t agree with this, there’s going to need Broxton for the next two games

by Tripon on Jun 23, 2009 7:36 PM PDT reply actions

I would have let Kuroda face Thome, too.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 23, 2009 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Damn

I wish they’d give Kuroda one more batter.

by Brendan Scolari on Jun 23, 2009 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Still

With as big of a lead as we have there’s no reason to abuse the relievers like this. If we lose a game every once in a while because of it it wouldn’t be a big deal, but if someone gets hurt then it is.

by Brendan Scolari on Jun 23, 2009 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions

3 pitches are OK for Big Jon

by Eric Stephen on Jun 23, 2009 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions

don't get me wrong, i agree

i’m just saying he hasn’t pitched 3 days in a row. but i agree with your point

by bucknellbruin on Jun 23, 2009 7:40 PM PDT up reply actions

How do you mark the runner advancing

because of defensive indifference on a scorecard?

by Jesse S. on Jun 23, 2009 7:38 PM PDT reply actions

with a middle finger to establishment :)

by Eric Stephen on Jun 23, 2009 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions

good game, goodnight guys
