"Kong" is starting to grow on me
none of the other nicknames have approached it :)

Kong is a great knickname...
But I think Mitch Jones wins the “coolness” contest if he decides to use this as his at bat song at Dodger Stadium…

This was fairly clear before, but Steiner & Monday just noted that Kershaw will pitch Friday and Milton on Saturday, against the Mariners.
Incidentally, that will be Milton’s 5th start, netting him a $50,000 bonus.
Speaking of bonuses, Orlando Hudson is 5 plate appearances away from earning another $250,000 (for his 325th PA).
However, if Mitch Jones pinch hits, we might get a King/Kong matchup!

Is that this season or career?
After a good start against the Angels, Torre and Honeycutt will say they don’t want to break Kershaw’s rhythm.
Pierre and Podsednik
What a leadoff/LF duo that is.
Both have been surprisingly successful hitters this season. Small sample size, or are there sufficiently fewer juiced-up pitchers that the punch-and-judy types can be successful again? (I think the former is more likely.)
Might happen in Thursday's day game
When Joe gets to play with house money.
The 40-year old Ausmus can’t catch every day any more IMHO, so you can’t do that for the whole series.
If Martin DHs Thursday against the LHP Richard, then Mitch Jones tonight against the LHP Danks makes more sense than tomorrow against RHP Floyd.
C Martin
1B Kemp
1B Loney
DH Jones
So the Dodgers are going with a five-man infield to start the game? I always thought the CF played in between 2nd and SS, I guess Torre must really trust O-Dog’s defensive abilities.
D'oh!!!
As much as I love the 5-man infield, Torre is in face employing three OF tonight :)

Hey, I wouldn't mind seeing an different kind of five-man infield to start the game...
…8 games up I wouldn’t complain.

I can't watch
They have the White Sox announcing crew and I forgot how much I loathe these two jokers. Can you be more monotone when O-Dawg doubles in a run? And don’t get me started on “the good guys comin’ up.” Where’s my f-ing radio?

BTW, Furcal's UZR and WAR entering this game is
UZR: 4.3
WAR: 0.9
For what fangraphs determines to be $4.2 million worth of production so far.
David Price was crushed by the Phillies
at home. Only five earned but still you got to get some outs.
McDonald
For an ex OF, McDonald looked pretty scared with that ball coming down.
Two people picked Loney today in the contest:
Me, and the actual winner:

East/West A League All-Star game
has four Loons starting: Pedroza, Russell, Delmonico, and Gordon. Pedroza has knocked in the only run so far with a double.
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2009_06_23_mdeafx_mdwafx_1
delmonico is playing catcher for the east all stars… he has a PB.. does anyone know if hes a good defensive catcher?
From what I understand he's been terrible which is why
he doesn’t get to catch much. I think most of the learning curve is going on in bullpen work. He was just converted this winter so he has alot to learn.
Good point, I was already thinking of snarky comments to post along the line of - Ethier’s OBP only matters if Martin can do something behind him.

BTW, Bill Shaikin is also on the Juan Pierre bandwagon.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-fyi24-2009jun24,0,7776936.story
Pierre, a five-time National League singles leader, is batting .331 since Ramirez was suspended May 7, with 16 extra-base hits and a .427 slugging percentage.
Ethier was batting .317 with a .558 slugging percentage when Ramirez was suspended. He is batting .233 since then, with 14 extra-base hits and a .404 slugging percentage.
a five-time National League singles leader
That is hilarious
by Eric Stephen on Jun 23, 2009 5:55 PM PDT up reply actions
Also, I like how Shaikin uses Ethier’s stats with and without Ramirez to make a point about what should happen with Ramirez.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 23, 2009 5:58 PM PDT up reply actions
As is Gurnick
Ethier went 2-for-5 Sunday but was hitting .177 in his previous nine games. He was hitting .317 the day Ramirez was suspended and his average has fallen to .268 going into Tuesday night’s game. His combined OPS has dropped from .996 to .827.
I can cherry-pick my stats too.
In June, before tonight:
.300 / .347 / .600 / .947 – Ethier
.273 / .309 / .325 / .633 – Pierre
True - but in the games Andre has played
with Manny and without Manny in 2008 and 2009 it is an interesting split.
Wasn't most of Pierre's line built of an extremely hot start?

Agreed
Torre is on the record several times on this. Pierre will play, but the main starting OF doesn’ t include him.
22 Strikes though
So he’s not struggling with the zone, just having problems putting guys away.

ancyghost: Do you have a nickname? I saw a kid in the pavilions with a “Clayton Kershaw the Curveball Kid” sign.
Kershaw: Evryone calls me Kersh, but no cool nicknames as of now. Nothing like the Bison, Matt Kemp.
Dodgers16Ethier: I want to know what is your favorite Taylor Swift song?
Kershaw: She’s great and I love all her songs, but “Our Song” is the best.

bees13: Congratulations on your outstanding performance against the Angels! Upon choosing to head straight for the show, what was it like for a player your age to immediately play under a manager like Joe Torre? Any thoughts on the Longhorn’s loss yesterday?
Kershaw: It’s a great experience to have Joe as my first manager, he’s terrific with players young and old. I’m blessed.
Kershaw: As for the second part, I’m an Aggie!
I would have been willing to overlook it, but I am relieved :)

1dodgerfam: How can I get better at my pitching? I am 8 years old and I’m going to be playing in the minors and its a longer reach than before.
Kershaw: Always have fun with it and keep practicing. The more you practice, the better you get.
Not a bad choice
kaitlin17: Whats you favorite movie?
Kershaw: I love comedies and my favorite is Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein. You have to see it.

Lyons and collins have a good rapport.
Other than Lyons sounding utterly flabbergasted at the new SABR terminology that Collins used. :)
It’ll be cool to see them become the new radio crew.
I was wondering why Ethier gave up on the play, and then Kemp just jumped into the screen.
Just an amazing play.

Kuroda’s game score is 86 right now. If he pitches a 1-2-3 9th with no strikeouts, the game score will be 91.
Kuroda had a 91 & 90 last year.
Eric Stults and his Saturday afternoon shutout has the Dodgers’ highest game score of 2009, at 84. Kershaw’s 13 K game netted an 83.
Kuroda’s career high in Ks is 11.
The Washington Wizards are close to a deal that would send the No. 5 pick in Thursday’s draft, Oleksiy Pecherov, Etan Thomas and Darius Songaila to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Randy Foye and Mike Miller, a league source told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher on Tuesday.
The players the Wizard traded are scrubs.
The main point is that they gave up the 5th pick for Miller and Foye.
Players that aren’t great.
Right
But Tripon said Foye wasn’t great.

i think Foye could be awesome
he was a star at Villanova and has all the tools to be great in the NBA. he graded out literally identical to Brandon Roy in that draft, which shows you the potential. He battled injuries last year and averaged 16/4

With as big of a lead as we have there’s no reason to abuse the relievers like this. If we lose a game every once in a while because of it it wouldn’t be a big deal, but if someone gets hurt then it is.
