Lee Klein is an…interesting dude

I guess the “hippies” will to God Bless America instead. National anthem was just sung by a 4th grade band.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 12:58 PM PDT reply actions

Sorry, not sung, but rather, performed.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 12:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Nice, Trevor Ariza got a huge ovation, and threw a first pitch to his buddy, Matt Kemp.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:02 PM PDT reply actions

Seems like a new video production

to start the game…a bunch of highlights, old and new, spliced together with music and announcing. I don’t know the name of the song, but its probably “I got soul, but I’m not a solider…”

"all these things that i've done" by the killers

Maybe I just haven't noticed this before

but they now put the names of the kids who take the field with the Dodgers to start the game up on the RF board. Kind of cool for them.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:10 PM PDT reply actions

“There goes my Hiro, watch him as he goes…”

Hard not to get fired up with that intro song.

Kuroda wins first-ever matchup with Ichiro

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:12 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

Is Beltre too long removed from the Dodgers

or does he still solicit some boos or cheers when he comes to the plate?

by Jesse S. on Jun 28, 2009 1:14 PM PDT reply actions

Very nice stretch/reach from Beard on that one. Kuroda is really working quick today.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:15 PM PDT reply actions

I love Kuroda

9 pitches and he’s already through 1 inning.

by Jesse S. on Jun 28, 2009 1:15 PM PDT reply actions

if kuroda has a no hitter through 8 and 2/3 innings and ichiro was up next to complete the no hitter, i would think ichiro might strike out on purpose

by matthewmafa on Jun 28, 2009 1:17 PM PDT reply actions

Wonderful reaction from Beltre there.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:18 PM PDT reply actions

3 first-pitch strikes so far for Olson.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:19 PM PDT reply actions

Haha!

our pitcher threw two less pitches than theirs. Take that! :)

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:21 PM PDT reply actions

Griffey with a decent ovation

Just softly served into RF for a hit there by Lopez

Franklin Gutierrez

whom I believe Baseball Prospectus once compared to Juan Gonzalez and intimated he might have a shot at 500 HR. I need to find that old article.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:25 PM PDT reply actions

A throw to the 2B side gets Lopez on that steal attempt. Oh well.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:27 PM PDT reply actions

2st stolen base of the year for Lopez

by Bluetrek on Jun 28, 2009 1:27 PM PDT reply actions

Kuroda fighting some control problems

those last two pitches weren’t even close…he may have been overthrowing, especially the last one.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:29 PM PDT reply actions

Orlando Hudson

needs 6 PA to reach 350, to get his next bonus of $250k…probably won’t happen today.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:30 PM PDT reply actions

I didn’t think Hudson had a shot at that, but the dive actually made it close.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:31 PM PDT reply actions

After starting Ichiro with a strike

Kuroda’s first pitch to each of the last 6 batters has been a ball.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:32 PM PDT reply actions

In the first inning, it seemed Kuroda was already starting his windup as he got the return throw from Martin, he was working so quickly.

Now, this inning has been at a snail’s pace.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:34 PM PDT reply actions

Hudson thought he had that one…replay looked pretty good to me.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:36 PM PDT reply actions

22 pitch inning

31 through 2 for Kuroda…first pitch strikes to only 2 of 8 batters

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:37 PM PDT reply actions

Russ with an opposite field gapper!!! A good sign.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:41 PM PDT reply actions

Russell

with a double, seems like he hasn’t had an extra base hit since his home run in Anaheim

by spike238e on Jun 28, 2009 1:42 PM PDT reply actions

Don’t see too many infield singles to second, but man is Ichiro fast.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:48 PM PDT reply actions

Beltre’s ball really was a rocket…it would have been an amazing play for Castro to field it.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:53 PM PDT reply actions

Damn, that throw would have got Branyan at 2B

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:56 PM PDT reply actions

Kemp got a face full of wall there.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:57 PM PDT reply actions

Dodgers had not committed an error in a season-high 50.2 innings before the Kuroda throw.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 1:57 PM PDT reply actions

23-pitch 3rd for Kuroda

following a 22-pitch 2nd…54 through 3.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:02 PM PDT reply actions

Easy game for Olson so far.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:07 PM PDT reply actions

Well this game kinda sucks

by Bluetrek on Jun 28, 2009 2:07 PM PDT reply actions

Give me Manny!

It’s been .500 ball for a while now, his presence in the lineup will be the difference.

by oshea2002 on Jun 28, 2009 2:10 PM PDT reply actions

That bunt for a hit attempt by Cedeno was one of the crappiest I've seen in awhile

How bad does your bat angle have to be to bunt it at the 1st base dugout? And it was kinda hard too.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 2:12 PM PDT reply actions

72 through 4 for Kuroda

by shoothoop on Jun 28, 2009 2:14 PM PDT reply actions

To me, this start by Kuroda is a little reminiscent of Milton’s yesterday. Kuroda has 4 Ks, but also allowed 4 R in 4 IP. But no HR allowed.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 2:17 PM PDT reply actions

They have gotten 6 hits in 4 innings and their stealing at will, so they’re moving a lot of guys into scoring position and driving them in.

by Nofatmike on Jun 28, 2009 2:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Olson is not this good

by shoothoop on Jun 28, 2009 2:18 PM PDT reply actions

From last night's recap, by Brendan
Olson has been pretty bad this year and was roughed up in his last start against the Padres, allowing 6 runs in 5.1 innings. In other words, the Dodgers should win

Time for Mr. Locked In!

Wow, Beltre! Nice inning for him defensively. That last play was spectacular.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:23 PM PDT reply actions

Good, not spectacular

They have to hit it higher to make it hurt for Beltre.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 2:23 PM PDT up reply actions

He’s already having the surgery. I don’t think it matters.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Question, remember the shift against Jack Cust in the A's series

Where the Dodgers left 3rd base totally open, and Cust bunted to 3rd for a base hit?

Did UZR credit that hit against Casey Blake?

That is a good question. I’m not sure on that one.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:34 PM PDT reply actions

Mariners beat writers were saying the 5th inning has been Olson’s nemesis.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:36 PM PDT reply actions

However

the 4th and 6th have been his bad innings, this season

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Castro should have gone to home though.

Don’t think the throw from Ichiro would have made it in time.

by Tripon on Jun 28, 2009 2:39 PM PDT reply actions

He held up at first because he thought it might be caught. If he would have come home, he would have been toast

Here we go

Lets get a couple mor eruns.

by Brendan Scolari on Jun 28, 2009 2:40 PM PDT reply actions

Sac fly pulls them one run closer

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:41 PM PDT reply actions

Why would Pierre go on 3-0?

he’s one ball away from being walked into scoring position. Unless it was a hit and run….

by Michael White on Jun 28, 2009 2:42 PM PDT reply actions

A 3-0 run and hit seems a little unlikely

but maybe. Extra base hit from Ethier and JP would score easily. Andre did get the green light on 3-0.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Ugh

On a 3-0 pitch. Don’t really like that.

by Brendan Scolari on Jun 28, 2009 2:42 PM PDT reply actions

Very close to being a hit…Griffey of old he is not…

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:42 PM PDT reply actions

Clearly not. I was surprised it was that close to being a cheap hit.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 2:44 PM PDT up reply actions

how did montero not make that tag..

by Ollie on Jun 28, 2009 2:45 PM PDT reply actions

I'm with DT's Bluebleeder

who suggested the Dodgers should be pounding that guy on the inside part of the plate. He crowds and make the outside part of the plate hittable.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions

I love Bluebleeder’s scouting reports.

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Love love love the 3-6-1…but that was a horseshit call

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:48 PM PDT reply actions

Definitely

started out as a sweet looking 3-6-1, but Kuroda cost himself with his own fielding.

Good job by Kuroda to get through at least 6

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:54 PM PDT reply actions

Kemp did not like that strike call

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:00 PM PDT reply actions

Not even close on the SB attempt

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:01 PM PDT reply actions

A little weird running 0-2

Resets Bison’s count for the next inning is the consolation prize.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Torre probably wants to sneak Kuroda through the weak 8-9 hittters, then go to Leach for Ichiro, I’m guessing, rather than start the inning with Leach or burn a RHP in relief for two weak batters.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Cedeno pretending he was Jose Lopez

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:04 PM PDT reply actions

And Batista is batting…Wakamatsu not a fan of the double-switch apparently…it is a sacrifice situation (because Batista is up)

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:04 PM PDT reply actions

Would have been a little early in the game for the double-switch, maybe. Also didn’t want to 2-for-1 out his catcher, and the batter due 8th was Gutierrez.

by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions

I would have went as far back as Griffey for the double switch

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:13 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't understand that at all.

You’re wasting an out. And even if Batista gets the bunt down and moves the runner over to 2nd, they’ll just walk Ichiro. Why not take you’re chances with a PH? And if the runner does not move over, they’ll have to Ichiro.

by Nofatmike on Jun 28, 2009 3:09 PM PDT up reply actions

I like that on the board they are showing Batista’s hitting stats in the 7th inning or later (.043 batting average, career)

by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:06 PM PDT reply actions

The Pacers are the new Clippers.
Jim O’Brien: “We’re just trying to take the most talented guy when we pick. Last night, for us, it was certainly Hansbrough. [His workout] was by far the most intense workout we had and it was a direct result of what he brought to that workout.”

I feel sorry for Pacers fans.

by Tripon on Jun 28, 2009 3:11 PM PDT reply actions

I know the draft was bad

but you generally don’t want to take like the 3rd or 4th guy off of your bench at 13

How does Ichiro wear a black short sleeve turtle neck kind of shirt in this weather? It’s so hot today

Felix Hernandez is seriously good, so let’s cut some slack for last night, but only 5 hits today, even with Castro in the lineup, and he had one of them, was unexpected.

On the bright side

We are playing worse then we have at any point – and it’s only 4 out of 5. That’s pretty good for the “disaster scenario” of the first half
