I guess the “hippies” will to God Bless America instead. National anthem was just sung by a 4th grade band.
Sorry, not sung, but rather, performed.

Seems like a new video production
to start the game…a bunch of highlights, old and new, spliced together with music and announcing. I don’t know the name of the song, but its probably “I got soul, but I’m not a solider…”
"all these things that i've done" by the killers
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions
Cardinals - 2008 NFC Champions
Maybe I just haven't noticed this before
but they now put the names of the kids who take the field with the Dodgers to start the game up on the RF board. Kind of cool for them.
Kuroda wins first-ever matchup with Ichiro

Is Beltre too long removed from the Dodgers
or does he still solicit some boos or cheers when he comes to the plate?
if kuroda has a no hitter through 8 and 2/3 innings and ichiro was up next to complete the no hitter, i would think ichiro might strike out on purpose
Franklin Gutierrez
whom I believe Baseball Prospectus once compared to Juan Gonzalez and intimated he might have a shot at 500 HR. I need to find that old article.
Kuroda fighting some control problems
those last two pitches weren’t even close…he may have been overthrowing, especially the last one.
After starting Ichiro with a strike
Kuroda’s first pitch to each of the last 6 batters has been a ball.
Damn, I didn’t even thin of that. I will resume my lament now :)

Give me Manny!
It’s been .500 ball for a while now, his presence in the lineup will be the difference.
That bunt for a hit attempt by Cedeno was one of the crappiest I've seen in awhile
How bad does your bat angle have to be to bunt it at the 1st base dugout? And it was kinda hard too.
To me, this start by Kuroda is a little reminiscent of Milton’s yesterday. Kuroda has 4 Ks, but also allowed 4 R in 4 IP. But no HR allowed.
Who the hell is Ryan Sadowski? The 26-year old threw 6 shutout innings for the Giants (7-0 winners) in his MLB debut.
From last night's recap, by Brendan
Olson has been pretty bad this year and was roughed up in his last start against the Padres, allowing 6 runs in 5.1 innings. In other words, the Dodgers should win
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:19 PM PDT up reply actions
He’s already having the surgery. I don’t think it matters.

Question, remember the shift against Jack Cust in the A's series
Where the Dodgers left 3rd base totally open, and Cust bunted to 3rd for a base hit?
Did UZR credit that hit against Casey Blake?
That is a good question. I’m not sure on that one.

Positive from losing 2 of 3 to Seattle
They stay in race – Washburn not available.
he's not in the on deck circle
so i guess so

And Today's winner is...
I’m going today
Kemp
4th inning
415 feet
by Alex L on Jun 28, 2009 10:47 AM PDT reply reply actions actions 0 recs
He’s retired 7 in a row, and it’s a sacrifice situation for him…not a tough call at all here.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions
However
the 4th and 6th have been his bad innings, this season
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions
very impressive
inside outs a pitch to right center. He’s a very strong dude
by Michael White on Jun 28, 2009 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions
Castro should have gone to home though.
Don’t think the throw from Ichiro would have made it in time.
He held up at first because he thought it might be caught. If he would have come home, he would have been toast

Here we go
Lets get a couple mor eruns.
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 28, 2009 2:40 PM PDT reply actions
Why would Pierre go on 3-0?
he’s one ball away from being walked into scoring position. Unless it was a hit and run….
A 3-0 run and hit seems a little unlikely
but maybe. Extra base hit from Ethier and JP would score easily. Andre did get the green light on 3-0.
Juan Pierre is a man who would try to steal on a 3-1 count.
He’s is not the smartest man on the team.
Ugh
On a 3-0 pitch. Don’t really like that.

I'm with DT's Bluebleeder
who suggested the Dodgers should be pounding that guy on the inside part of the plate. He crowds and make the outside part of the plate hittable.
Twice today!
two potential inning enders.

they showed two angles but you can't tell if the side of his shoe hits the edge of the bag or not.
he tried to sell it by holding up the glove, but he probably never touched the bag.
The two angles were close, but inconclusive
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:52 PM PDT up reply actions
That's true
I have an irrational love of 3-6-1 DPs, so I let that cloud my judgment.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions
And Batista is batting…Wakamatsu not a fan of the double-switch apparently…it is a sacrifice situation (because Batista is up)
Would have been a little early in the game for the double-switch, maybe. Also didn’t want to 2-for-1 out his catcher, and the batter due 8th was Gutierrez.
I would have went as far back as Griffey for the double switch
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:13 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't understand that at all.
You’re wasting an out. And even if Batista gets the bunt down and moves the runner over to 2nd, they’ll just walk Ichiro. Why not take you’re chances with a PH? And if the runner does not move over, they’ll have to Ichiro.
I like that on the board they are showing Batista’s hitting stats in the 7th inning or later (.043 batting average, career)
The Pacers are the new Clippers.
Jim O’Brien: “We’re just trying to take the most talented guy when we pick. Last night, for us, it was certainly Hansbrough. [His workout] was by far the most intense workout we had and it was a direct result of what he brought to that workout.”
I feel sorry for Pacers fans.
I know the draft was bad
but you generally don’t want to take like the 3rd or 4th guy off of your bench at 13
It was a draft loaded with Point guards, and the Pacers were one of the teams that really needed a starting PG
and they punt on that. That’s the really weird thing.
He transported himself from the bullpen, for those wondering.

Yep
and no talking on his cell phone this time either
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions
And then Leach HBP
Come on Leach, I was promoting you for a little while. Don’t let me dow-, and they pull him.
I think the gun was screwy on Friday…but yeah, there’s still a difference.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions
Belisario late covering
probably because he was looking for cops before he started moving.
Good reaction by Geoffrey to make the play himself.
The crowd looks really confused on the simon and Garfunkle band.

Haha
They should add a 3rd member, perhaps Nancy Bea Heafley, then they can be “Pete, Bea, and J”

Nevermind
I’m an idiot…who apparently can’t read.

He actually hit one on the final day of last season.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:28 PM PDT up reply actions
Seeing eye single for Furcal
In a different situation, he might have tried to stretch that into a double.
Pierre
nobody on .750 OPS
men on .873 OPS
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:30 PM PDT up reply actions
but the real answer is that, in order to be able to hit with men on base, you need to be able to hit. So there we are, with JP
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:32 PM PDT up reply actions
Pretty much a best case scenario
other then a bloop single I guess
We’re half an inning away from the hardest moment for Eric to act professionally in the press box: the middle of the 8th.
by David Young on Jun 28, 2009 3:30 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
Yes
I’m just teasing Eric.
I thought it was dumb too, but the people do seem to like it for some reason.
I disliked it at first.
But I’m okay with it now.
Main thing that playing journey doesn’t actually slowdown the game unlike GBA
I just think its so cliche and irrelevant
not only is it over played, but I remember someone on DT mentioning its by a band form the bay area about a girl form detroit
O.A.
Now your scraping the bottom
I have no use for Journey, but I will admit that Steve Perry has serious rock and roll lungs. They’re just wasted on shitty songs.
I hope Torre finally shakes up the lineup after this game.
Or rather, remove JP from leadoff.
Put Furcal to leadoff, Hudson 2nd, and then Ethier, Blake, Kemp, etc manning 3,4,5
Totally agree - but won't happen.
But it’s only a few more game
I’ll bet Pierre gets the next 3 games at leadoff…no real changes until Friday
by Eric Stephen on Jun 28, 2009 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't know.
I just think JP gets a free pass at the moment. Its his job to get on base, but he’s just been taking some pretty bad hacks to avoid striking out.
